Pokemon Trading Card Game – Sun & Moon Cosmic Eclipse Set

Pokemon Trading Card Game 1

If you’ve been enjoying the 2019 addition of TAG TEAM cards into the Pokemon Trading Card Game, then the latest expansion to launch for the ever growing card game, Cosmic Eclipse, will bring you even more of that dual Pokemon goodness. On top of that, new TAG TEAM trios are also available. Check out this brief description of trios, courtesy of The Pokemon Company International:

Pokemon Trading Card Game 2
“Two exciting TAG TEAM trios arrive on the scene in Sun & Moon—Cosmic Eclipse for players to collect and use in battle. Mythical and Legendary Pokémon collide with Arceus & Dialga & Palkia-GX, which will prove to be a powerful addition to any deck. In addition, looks can be deceiving with the adorable yet powerful trio of Togepi & Cleffa & Igglybuff-GX.”

Over the holidays, The Pokemon Company International was nice enough to send us a massive box of Pokemon merchandise, which we will be posting about for the next little while. The most relevant, of course, is the Cosmic Eclipse set. Included with this new set are 9 new TAG TEAM cards, seven more Pokemon-GX cards, and 20 new trainer and special energy cards. And of course, new art and cards for some of your favourite Pokemon from Sun and Moon as well! The set includes over 230 cards, total.

Pokemon Trading Card Game 3
As always, there are a good combination of cards within the whole set, that if you wanted to build a competitive deck just from these cards, you really could. From a game play perspective, the variety in the cards is fantastic. There are GX cards that perform powerful attacks, but have a lackluster ability; on the flip side, there are cards with a great ability, but lackluster attacks. The incredibly impressive Charizard and Braixen card is a great example of this.

I also like the uniqueness of some of the cards, which allows for more strategic game play options. Over the last 3 or 4 release, the Pokemon Company has really been pushing these unique abilities, an they’ve taken it to the next step here. Looking at the Charizard and Braixen TAG TEAM card, and you see an attack that does damage while also allowing players to search their decks for up to three cards, and add those cards to their hand.

It doesn’t hurt that the artwork is fantastic as well. While some of the standard Pokemon are a bit bland and boring, the full art cards and TAG TEAM cards are incredibly impressive.

Overall, this launch has been wildly successful, and that success carried into the holidays, and even into 2020. My local retail stores are still out of stock on this expansion, and they’ve been getting card loads weekly. Many are waiting for the slow demise of The Pokemon Trading Card Game. I don’t see that happening any time soon.
