More Thoughts From Me #154: Still A Happy Home

I’ve been playing Animal Crossing since the first game on the Gamecube. I even got amiibo Festival and Happy Home Designer. I did eventually get rid of amiibo Festival and Happy Home Designer. I don’t regret getting rid amiibo Festival, but I did regret letting go of Happy Home Designer. And so recently I got the game back as a digital download. I’m so glad I did.

Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer isn’t like the other Animal Crossing games. Its not in real time, there is no town with animals living in it, and you can play it whenever you want-guilt free. So why do I like Happy Home Designer? Its so different from the other games. Why was I drawn back to it?

What I love about Happy Home Designer is that you can see a lot of the animals, interact with them, help them build their houses, and visit them whenever. The home designing is easy and fun. Mostly you get to put whatever you want in or out of their house. Sure they might have a few items that they want but other than that, build what you want! Happy Home Designer gives the player a creative freedom that I really love.

Plus, while there is no town full of animals in this game, you do have a shopping area that you build you up. Create a school, a hospital, a shop, and more. Its so much fun. I really wish that the regular Animal Crossing would let you do this.

I would love to see many of Happy Home Designers features come to the Switch Animal Crossing. It would be cool to see players have the option of helping animals choose a location for their house and help them build it with furniture and objects outside.

I’d also like to see the player have a hand in crafting the ‘city’ part of the game. You could work for the Happy Home Academy if you wanted to. I think more jobs in Animal Crossing would be great. One player in town is the mayor, one works for Happy Home, maybe another works for Timmy and Tommy, etc.

More options for things to do in the regular Animal Crossing series would be great. I think Happy Home Designer is just the start of where the AC series should look for inspiration. I have big hopes for the next Crossing game. Perhaps I’m thinking too big. Perhaps Animal Crossing will never include these features.

I don’t know. All I know for sure is that I’m happy I got Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer back. Now I can create an animal’s room whenever I feel like it.

What about you? Do you play Happy Home Designer? Who is your favorite animal in the game?

Next week: Kingdom Hearts 3 is coming out at the end of this month and so, the week before it comes out, I’ll share with you my excitement for the game. Why am I looking forward to this game so much?!

More Thoughts From Me is an opinion column. The thoughts expressed here are mine and mine alone. I hope Nintendo shows off Animal Crossing Switch SOON.
