Disney Lorcana – Reign of Jafar Chapter

Our friends at Ravensburger, knowing how big of Disney fans the Roffel family is, sent over a TON of the latest Disney Lorcana chapter content. With big changes and card reprints coming, along with the removal of Chapters 1-4 from competitive play, Reign of Jafar marks the last set before the game gets an overhaul. The core concepts are remaining the same, yes, but a lot is going to change, and new stuff is coming! Let’s break down all the great Reign of Jafar content you can expect when the product launches in late May and early June!

Please note, we will be discussing the cooperative box for Disney Lorcana in a separate article. Be on the lookout for our impressions of Illumineer’s Quest: Palace Heist

Illumineer’s Trove

Ravensburger has sent me more products than ever before to review this upcoming set, and I thought it would be a good time to see how far Disney Lorcana has come since Chapter 1 released in 2023. One space that has definitely seen a major improvement over the years are the Illumineer’s Trove’s. These boxes have always served as a great storage solution for Disney Lorcana, and have provided players with booster packs and card dividers.

Over the years, Ravensburger has improved the value of the Trove’s immensely. Card dividers got a big thicker, and as recently as the last Chapter or 2, have started printing artwork on the dividers as well, instead of relying on the Ink symbols.

They have also begun adding dice into the boxes a few Chapters back – these dice act as damage counters for cards, and are a HUGE improvement over the cheap cardstock counters you might get in a Starter Deck. While Ravensburger hasn’t released any premium components for the game so far – can we PLEASE get some acrylic markers?! – these dice are an excellent addition to the Trove’s, and makes picking one of these up more beneficial than ever before.

Also included in the Trove’s, and have been for some time now, are little Lore trackers. These little dials are outstanding, and are a HUGE upgrade over the tokens used on the paper player mats included in starter decks. The tokens would have made sense had Ravensburger been printing lore trackers on their playmats, but that hasn’t happened as far as I can tell.

Disney Lorcana Playmats

Speaking of Playmats, Ravensburger has released two brand new mats to go alongside the Reign of Jafar release. Disney Lorcana playmats have not really evolved over time, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. My love for the playmats stems from the fantastic art, and whether you pick up the Hades mat or the Rescue Rangers mat (my personal favourite), you are going to be presented with amazing artwork.

If I was to begin nitpicking what Ravensburger is doing with these mats, it would be that I would love to see one mat per Chapter that highlights specific play areas. Disney’s other popular trading card game, Star Wars Unlimited, has been doing this for a number of releases now, and I would love to see Ravensburger follow suit. Simple outlines for your deck, songs, ink, play area, and discard pile would be phenomenal, and really be beneficial to new players.

There are other great products released as well including new deck boxes and sleeves that players can use. It’s all very impressive, and once again Disney Lorcana is showing why it is the best collectible card game available. It’s a great trading card game as well! Stay tuned for more on deck building, the quest, and more!
