More Thoughts From Me #49: Hooked By Lego Dimensions

For Christmas this year, I got a game I thought I’d never get: Lego Dimensions! It wasn’t that I didn’t want Lego Dimensions. I love most of the franchises that the game includes and I’m a big fan of the Lego games. The problem, for me, was the price of the game. Fortunately, the game was on sale and I got it for Christmas. I also recieved the Lego Doctor Who level kit! I played around with Lego Dimensions a bunch during Christmas and the days after. Here are my impressions so far!

I didn’t know that there would be so much real world building to Lego Dimensions. Sure, I knew that there would be some, but nobody had warned me about how much. I am not very handy with building things. Thankfully, I did have my dad’s help with the building, he is a little more handy than me at building. Together, we built all of the figures and vehicles that I got. We did not build the Portal. That was just a bit too much building for us.

If I had known about all the building, would I still have wanted Lego Dimensions? My honest answer is that if I had known, I would not have gotten it. So I’m glad I didn’t know. Because, so far, the game is pretty good…for the most part. I do have some more complaints…

Lets get my Lego Dimensions complaints out of the way before I talk about why I do love the game. On Christmas Day, Lego Dimensions locked up twice on me. I have had no lock up problems since then, but I have run into some glitches here and there. The worst was on a Doctor Who snow level where I kept falling through the snow over and over again. I had to quit the level to get out of the loop. It was a bit worrying. My final complaint has to do with how many Toy Pad puzzles there are. My pad is far away from me, so to do those puzzles I have to keep getting up from my chair. A lot. Ok, so thats more of thing I don’t like about the game than a techical complaint. Putting the glitches, lock ups, and the toy pad puzzles aside, I do really love this game so far.

Lego Dimensions is a lot of fun. I was surprised by the Wizard of Oz world, the Simpsons, and the amazing Doctor Who Story Level (Don’t blink!). The cutscenes were especially awesome, but I did like exploring the levels too. Oh and I’m enjoying the Doctor Who DLC level a lot. Not only is the story awesome, but you can go to the Doctor Who, Lord of the Rings, DC Comics, and Lego Movie worlds to just explore them and see what you can find! The amount of content in this game is jaw dropping. And I know there are  a lot more levels waiting for me (as soon as I get more level packs).

I am looking forward to getting more levels for Lego Dimensions and I’m also not looking forward to it. There are so many cool levels for this game that I don’t have and they all look great. But i’m not looking forward to having to put more figures and vehicles together. I won’t let that stop me from getting more stuff for this game though. I can see myself playing Lego Dimensions for a long time to come! I am very glad that I got it for Christmas!

So what do you think of Lego Dimensions? If you like it, who is your favorite character and what is your favorite world? Which level do you think I should get next? Let us know in the comments!

Next week: Welcome to 2017! What games would I like to see announced (and possibly come out) this year? My  wishlist: what could happen and what wouldn’t happen–but hey, I can dream!

More Thoughts From Me is an opinion column. The thoughts expressed here are mine and mine alone. Ok, time to get back to the Doctor Who DLC!
