The year is almost over and there have been so many great games this year. These are my ten favorite games of 2022. Let’s start with number 10…

10. Mario and Rabbids: Sparks of Hope: The second Mario and Rabbids game is even better than the first. Better story, bigger world to explore, and fantastic battles. Great game.

9. Splatoon 3: I just got this game for Christmas but I already love it. The online gameplay is as addictive as ever, the single player game is fun and there’s so much more to discover. I’ll be playing this one for a long time to come.

8. Ooblets: An odd and wondeful simulation game where you move to an island, befriend weird creatures, and take part in dance offs. Its such a good game.

7. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Cowabunga Collection: Never in a million years would I have thought that all of the classic NES/SNES/Genesis and Gameboy TMNT games would ever be collected and put onto the Switch. This is a very special collection, especially for a life long TMNT fan.

6. Atari 50: Without Atari, there would be no video game industry. Not as we know it anyway. This collection is pretty amazing because not only can you play classic Atari games but its all presented in a way that teaches you all about the history too. What a fantastic collection.

5. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Shredder’s Revenge: Not only did we get a collection of classic TMNT games this year but we also got a brand new game in the classic style. Shredder’s Revenge is an absolute blast. Its a must have for any TMNT fan.

4. Disney Dreamlight Valley: Part Animal Crossing, part Kingdom Hearts, all Disney. Disney Dreamlight Valley isn’t a perfect game and maybe shouldn’t be this high up in this list but I love this game and can’t wait to see where it goes next.

3. Crisis Core Reunion Final Fantasy VII: I played this game back in the day on the PSP and liked it but the new remake with better graphics and gameplay improves upon an already good game and makes it even better. Crisis Core is one of the best games of this year.

2. Dragon Quest Treasures: Okay, full disclosure, I just got this game for Christmas. I haven’t had this game long, but Dragon Quest Treasures is super addictive. There’s tons of treasures to find, monsters to recruit, and things to do. If you love Dragon Quest, you need this game. Heck, if you like Pokemon you should check this out. This is Dragon Quest meets Pokemon in the best of ways.

1. Persona 5 Royal: When I reviewed Persona 5 Royal for the Switch, I gave it a 10 out of 10. This is my favorite game of the year. I absolutely loved everything about it: the story, the characters, the graphics, and the gameplay. Persona 5 Royal for the Switch is my Game of the Year!

Honorable mentions: Animal Crossing New Horizons, Chained Echoes, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Triangle Strategy, Live A Live, Pokémon Scarlet

What were your favorite games of 2022?
