Immortals Fenyx Rising – A Beginner’s Guide to Becoming Legendary

There are some games where the minimum you want to be is legendary. Luckily, Immortals Fenyx Rising makes that nice and easy.

On a basic level, you’ll spend most of your time in-game helping out gods and exploring for items which will enable you to level up. You’ll do the former through quest items, while the latter will take a bit more work on your part.

That work is really worth it. The more you can level up your equipment, health and stamina, the easier you’ll find your adventure. And, honestly, it’ll probably even save you a bit of time in the long run.

But all of this is explained pretty well during the opening couple of hours, and it’s not why you’re here. You want to know how to maximise your gameplay experience, and, like the game, it’s easier than it might appear.

Can’t Save World, Busy Collecting

The world of Immortals Fenyx Rising is full of things to find, and make use of. On a basic level, we’re talking about all the plants you can pick up as you go about your adventure, and yes they’re well worth having. This can’t be stressed enough: pick up every bit of plant life you can.

Combined with making regular trips to places where you can mix potions, this is key to giving yourself a simple life. Loading up on health potions has obvious benefits, especially during longer, harder boss fights. But you’ll be surprised how often a stamina potion is necessary, and the attack and defence boosts can mean the difference between a close call and an easy win.

There’s no shortage of flowers to collect, so go mad. It can feel a little annoying at times, but you’re just giving yourself an advantage over the giant and often difficult enemies you will face.

In a broader sense, collecting Ambrosia and Zeus’s Lightning is just as important. These give you better health and stamina and, if you’re getting Zeus’s Lighting from vaults, it’s also unlocking fast travel points. Playing on next-gen devices means you can fast travel across the world in seconds, so make use of that skill as often as you can. Finishing a vault makes it selectable from the map.

With all this in mind, go back to the Hall of Gods as often as you can. It’s a tad annoying, but equally as valuable.

Fighting like a Champ

Fighting isn’t super hard in Immortals Fenyx Rising, but it can be even easier if you know how to take full advantage of it.

First of all: levelling. Just as with above, make sure that you’re regularly upgrading your equipment. It will make a massive difference.

For instance, I went through far too much of the game without touching the bow and arrow. It just wasn’t as good as getting up close to an enemy.

But that’s largely because my sword and hammer was what I’d focussed on levelling, and hadn’t even really considered the difference a bow and arrow might make. Equally, for puzzles, I suggest getting the ability that allows you to speed or slow arrows as soon as possible. I was kicking myself time and time again during the opening portion fo the game.

Stealth is really useful in a one on one situation, but I found it pretty useless when tackling crowds. It gives you a pretty strong hit against one opponent, but that doesn’t mean it’s the best way to approach a group.

Get that parry down, and learn to spot the red light. That indicated that you won’t be able to block a move. If you time a dodge perfectly, you’ll slow down time for a moment, and it’s possible to unlock other, more damaging upgrades for this as well. Dodging a red attack perfectly is just as important as parrying a normal one.

How to Solve Puzzles

There are more than a few thinkers in Immortals Fenyx Rising, some of which are mandatory to progress through the story. None of them are too difficult, it just takes a little bit of lateral thinking.

The first tip I shamefully didn’t realise until quite late. I put it here partly for my own embarressment, and partly because I won’t be the only one that missed out on this knowledge. There are puzzles that you can screw up and make temporarily unsolveable. This is easily fixed. You can reset it at the switch you used to start it. Don’t kill yourself, and don’t stress out trying to find a solution to something that’s impossible.

I know, but we all start somewhere.

Look for simple solutions. There’s sometimes more than one solution to getting something to sit on that heavy switch. Finding nearby rocks can solve the problem. Tossing a brick up a wall and then climbing after it piece by piece can be an alternative to tackling that laser wall as well. Go with the path of least resistance.

Look at what you’ve got to work with. Every puzzle is largely self-contained, and you’re warned if you’ll be unable to complete a vault because you don’t have the skills needed. Approach it from a few different ways and try something you’ve never tried before. For example, you can still summon small blocks to you while you’re jumping, giving a little bit of extra height if you need to bypass a laser.

Using Hephaistos’s Hammer is a time saver as well. Don’t push blocks that can be smashed forward, and you can skip some laser puzzles with this quick move as well.

Immortals Fenyx Rising – A Beginner’s Guide – Conclusion

Immortals Fenyx Rising isn’t a difficult game. For the most part you’ll sail through at your own pace, stopped only by the occasional optional boss or annoying puzzle.

No, the reality is that most of the difficulty I encounted came from myself, not fully exploiting the systems the game puts out for me. With a little extra effect, you’ll enjoy your adventure all the more.

Here at GamesReviews, we’ve been really impressed by Immortals. The PS5/Xbox Series X versions are incredible, while the Switch version is still enjoyable (despite some performance issues). I’ve seen comments on the web calling it Ubisoft’s best game since Assassin’s Creed II. That’s meaty praise.

What makes it most enjoyable is the adventure of exploring a new world. And when you’re exploring a new world, you should use every tool at your disposal.
