More LEGO Super Mario Launching January 1, 2020

It’s hard to really gauge the popularity of specific LEGO sets because so many are produced for consumption. Sure, in unique scenarios, very specific sets sell out, and they sell out quickly. Think about the $800+ LEGO Millennium Falcon, for example. But LEGO Super Mario has always been available, with a few sets going out of stock early on, only to be plentiful now. Things must be going well, however, as LEGO moves to release even more sets in 2021.

It all begins with what I think are the best sets of the bunch, the small blind bags with various Mario enemies sealed inside. A brand new Series 2 of these creatures will be releasing January 1, 20202, and we cannot wait to collect all the new ones, despite still missing a few of the old ones. What makes these blind bag characters so unique is unlike other minifigure collections, it really doesn’t matter if you get doubles, or even triples. It’s easy to use all the characters in the levels you build!

Mario is also getting new enhancements. My kids have thoroughly enjoyed changing up Mario’s outfit, making him either Fire Mario, Builder Mario, or Cat Mario. Two brand new suits will be available soon, including a penguin suit that allows Mario to slide and collect coins, as well as a Tanooki Mario, which will obviously be the best Mario ever. Ever. EVER.

Finally, LEGO is launching 4 brand new sets:

·         LEGO® Super Mario™ Master Your Adventure Maker Set (366 Pieces)

·         LEGO® Super Mario™ Chain Chomp Jungle Encounter Expansion Set (160 Pieces)

·         LEGO® Super Mario™ Piranha Plant Puzzling Challenge Expansion Set (267 Pieces)

·         LEGO® Super Mario™ Wiggler’s Poison Swamp Expansion Set (374 Pieces)

Of these, the Master Your Adventure Maker Set is the most promising. Not only does it provide you extra pieces for extending your course (base pieces and 2×8/1o pieces), but it also gives you a maker machine that allows you to move around a rotating block and actually assign specific power ups to a block. That’s pretty neat if you ask us!

The other sets are going to be great as well – I cannot wait to get my hands on a Wiggler character, and build an epic Chain Chomp! All of these sets will be available on January 1, 2020, and we cannot wait to review them all for you. Stay tuned!
