Konami eFootball PES 2020

While the title might be unnecessarily large and cumbersome, Konami wants to make sure players know what they are striving for with their latest football title – while this is an extension of the PES franchise, and has all the previous modes and options of other Pro Evolution Soccer experiences, the focus this time around is on online play. But does PES 2020 deliver on this? Let’s take a dive into eFootball PES 2020 and find out!

The moment you get under the hood of PES 2020 you begin to realize this is their best football title in years, creating a more realistic experience than ever before, and perhaps even rivaling EA for best technical football game in 2019. From dribbling to passing to shooting, PES – or any football title for that matter – has never felt so real and so alive. While FIFA 20 takes a faster approach to games on the pitch, Konami has opted to slow things down in PES 2020, providing a more realistic experience. For this reason, PES 2020 is likely a hard pass for casual football fans, but those that really appreciate the ins and outs of the sport will find a TON to love here.

It’s not all glamourous though, and the same issues that plagued previous PES experiences is evident here again, including clunky menus and the lack of major team licenses. For most consumers around the world, the opportunity to play as your favorite local team likely doesn’t’ exist, and this is once again a major disappointment.

The additional of numerous online modes is new to PES 2020, but outside of that and some new ball physics, everything in PES 2020 feels familiar if you’ve played last years iteration of the franchise. And that isn’t necessarily a bad thing, as last year deliver a solid football experience as well.

While minor tweaks are made to the My Club and the other modes – including the addition of cut scenes to enjoy when playing through your players career – everything is familiar, which might be a major plus for a game that seems to be delivering the best football experience year after year. If only Konami could solve the licensing woes, they might have shot at being the best in the business. Right now, the only thing that holds them back is money, and the ability to get those licensed teams, kits, and logos, into their already fantastic football experience!
