Nintendo Winning 2017?

While other companies have had impressive years – Sony with Horizon Zero Dawn and a new Uncharted soon comes to mind – has anyone really had the year Nintendo has? I’d argue no, and based on what we are seeing, Nintendo is poised to finish 2017 very strong, and continue that success into 2018. Here are our points for why Nintendo gets the shiny trophy for this year!

Launched the Nintendo Switch – Everyone was pretty skeptical of what Nintendo was going to do after the Wii U, and many were NOT happy to see them launching a new console so quickly. That being said, the Nintendo Switch launch has been huge, and no company is more deserving of this than Nintendo. They’ve still innovated as opposed to playing it safe, and they won!

Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – No matter how you look at this one – whether on the old Wii U or the new Nintendo Switch, it was a hit, celebrated by CEOs and executives of all the major video game companies. To make a long story short, everyone wanted this game. Millions played it. Everyone inspired to create like it. This is Nintendo at it’s best, and possibly the Game of the Year if not for…

Super Mario Odyssey – To major hits in one year, something Nintendo hasn’t done in a while. Mind you, Nintendo has 4 or 5 major hits this year, but lets focus on the two that are going to be chart topping in all regions. Super Mario Odyssey demoed incredibly well at E3, and all I heard from fans and media alike was, “This game could topple Breath of the Wild for Game of the Year.” With that type of praise, it’s hard to not begin crowning Nintendo the winner of 2017 a bit early!

Games, Games, Games – A lot of people are saying there are no games on Nintendo Switch, and to those people I say, “Where have you been?” Mario+Rabbids Kingdom Battle, Splatoon 2, Xenoblade, and more are heading to the Nintendo Switch this year, and they will also be blockbuster titles in Europe, Japan, and North America. Nintendo is doing something that Sony and Microsoft have rarely been able to do: continually release hits in all regions, not just one or two.

There you have it, just a few reasons why Nintendo should win 2017. But what do you think? Who is your winner this year! Let us know via social media!
