MultiVersus Early Access Beta First Impressions
MulitVersus is Warner Bros upcoming free-to-play fighting game with many of their popular characters. From Bugs Bunny to Batman and Superman to the Iron Giant, there are so many cool characters and stages with this game. Its currently in Early Access beta and I got the chance to check it out on my Xbox Series S. Here are my first impressions of MultiVersus!
MultiVersus is a lot like Smash Bros expect…dare I say it…a bit cooler. In this game you get to fight as Batman, Bugs Bunny, Taz, other DC characters, the Iron Giant, Scooby Doo characters and more. Warner Bros has a huge library of characters and what we’re seeing in the easy access beta is just the tip of the iceberg.
Of course just having cool characters and stages isn’t enough. The gameplay has to be good too. And you know what? MultiVersus has excellent gameplay. I’ve seen franchises (coughPlaystationcough) try to do Smash Bros like games before and fail. MultiVersus gameplay is very solid and fun. Each of the characters feel different and unique. They all have special moves that make them stand out.
My favorite character so far is Bugs Bunny! I love that he can throw pies, jump on a rocket, and burrow underground. He’s tons of fun. Though other characters like Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman are a blast too. And I have no idea who Jake is but he is a lot of fun with his shapeshifting abilities. The stages are awesome too. I like how destructible some of them are. The Batcave is my favorite at the moment. Glad I have more characters now too.
You start off with only a few characters in the beginning but can unlock more by earning coins and other material. Can’t wait to get Tom and Jerry and the Iron Giant!
There are many different modes in the beta. My favorite is the one vs one mode but there is a fun Team mode, Team vs. bots and a party mode. So far I’ve just tried one vs one and the team and loved them. I will eventually try out the other modes. The full release is going to have offline play too for those who want to play against friends and/or family locally.
Since the beta is all online, you may wonder how well does the online work. Well, on the first day there was a bit of a sign in hiccup but once the game got past that, it ran really well. I had no disconnects during the first day. Today I did have one disconnect in one vs one, but no other disconnects at all including in team mode! MultiVersus is a blast.
The open beta starts next week and I highly recommend you join in on the fun if you like Smash Bros. The game isn’t available on the Switch but you can find it on Playstation, Xbox, and PC.
MultiVersus is currently in early access beta. The open beta will be out on July 26, 2022.
