Word Wheel by POWGI

Lightwood Games has a history of making cool word puzzle games. They’ve been doing some non-word puzzle games lately though. So when I heard they had a new Word game coming to the Switch, I got excited! Is Word Wheel by POWGI for the Nintendo Switch worth that excitement? Lets find out!

Word Wheel by POWGI is the first new word puzzle game that Lightwood games has done in awhile. And you know what? They have not lost their groove here. Word Wheel is a fantastic word puzzle game for the Switch!

What makes Word Wheel so good? Well, first of all, there are 100 Word puzzles. Within each of those, you have to find many words. The trick to Word Wheel though is that you must use the letter in the middle of the wheel. Every. single. time. This gets pretty tricky.

Thankfully, you do not have to solve these puzzles by yourself. Word Wheel has split joycon multiplayer and you can also share a touchscreen or pass the Switch around! My dad and I preferred passing the Switch screen around but any way you play it, Word Wheel is a great two-player game.

And I have to say that nobody uses the Switch touchscreen as well as Lightwood Games. The touchscreen controls for Word Wheel are perfect. Meanwhile the game’s analog and button controls are alright. They are not as precise as the touchscreen controls, but work fine if you want to take advantage of the game’s split joycon multiplayer.

Word Wheel is an excellent game, although there are some things that could be better.

I wish the game’s main menu was better designed. Scrolling over to find more word puzzles is alright but I think there could’ve been an easier more interesting design for the main menu.

My other complaint is that there is no way to back out of a puzzle via the touchscreen. You have to press the start button to go back to the main menu. For a game that uses the touchscreen so well, you’d think there’d be a way to exit to the main menu without resorting to buttons. Oh those buttons!

And my last complaint is that the same old POWGI music is being used in this game. So annoying. Thankfully you can turn it off.

Overall, Word Wheel by POWGI is a great game. Sure those three things I mentioned are annoying, but the game is so addictive, has multiplayer, and (for the most part) excellent touchscreen integration. Lightwood Games does it again!

Word Wheel by POWGI gets a 8.0 out of 10.

Thanks to Lightwood Games for providing a digital copy of this game for review. Word Wheel by POWGI is available now for the Nintendo Switch eshop!
