New Details on Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield

During the Nintendo Treehouse Live portion of E3 2019, Nintendo showed up a number of their upcoming titles, including Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield. The live demo during Treehouse showed off even more information that was not included in the Pokémon Direct earlier this month, and we have the details for you!

Dynamax

Dynamax battles were shown of in a bit more details, and it was confirmed that once defeated, all participating players would get the opportunity to catch the Pokémon for themselves!

Wild Area

While the wild area was briefly shown off in the early June information video, even more of it was shown at E3. The Wild Area is made up of plains, lakes, mountains, and more, and variable weather will effect different parts of the region at different times.

These weather effects not only make different Pokémon appear in any given area, but also provide slight bonuses to certain Pokémon when in battle, which adds and extra level of depth to the game that we haven’t seen before. While you might have two Pokémon of similar level and strength, prioritizing the one with the weather bonus could give you the upper hand!

Pokeball Plus

Fans of the Pokeball Plus will be excited and disappointed, all at the same time. Pokémon Sword and Shield will allow you to place a Pokémon inside your Pokeball Plus, and then earn XP for that Pokémon will going about your regular day.

Players will not, however, be able to use the Pokeball Plus to play Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, for obvious reasons: there just are not enough buttons on the controller to make it work in a mainstream Pokémon adventure!

New Gym Leader Revealed

A brand new Water Type Gym Leader was also revealed during the first 30 minute demo of the game. Like Misty, Nessa will use water Pokémon to try and gain the upper hand on whatever you throw at her.
