Namco Museum Archives Vol. 1 and 2 Review

Namco Museum Archives Vol. 1 and 2 are two separate games but because they have a lot of similarities, I am doing a review for them both here. They will each have their own separate review score at the end of this article. Are Namco Museum Archives Vol. 1 and 2 worth checking out?

Namco Museum Archives Vol. 1 is a collection of such games as Pac-man, Xevious, Mappy, and more! There are eleven titles in all. Pac-man Championship Edition, the last title in the collection, is a new retro demake of the previously released Pac-man Championship Edition.

Meanwhile, Namco Museum Archives Vol. 2 is a collection that includes Galaga, Battle City, Pac-land, and more. This collection also has eleven games. Gaplus is a new 2020 title.

Both collections have a very basic menu where you select which game you want to play. The best thing about this menu is that if you stay on a game for a moment, a preview of the game will be shown! This is good especially for the less familiar titles.

As far as extra options, there isn’t very many to be found in these collections. You can save anywhere in any game (or load), change your screen size, wallpaper background, or controller settings. There are only three wallpaper backgrounds; the space one is the best.

There is a rewind feature for every game but its not very good. You have to keep pulling up the little rewind menu to keep going back. Too bad you just couldn’t hold down a button to rewind…

As far as the games go, Namco Museum Vol. 1 has the better games. The retro Pac-man Championship is one of the best games!

Thats not to say that Namco Museum Vol. 2 is bad. It has Galaga, a true classic. And then it has some lesser known games. They are still worth checking out though.

Overall, the Namco Museum Archives collections are good. I wish they both had more extras like the Darius and Sega Genesis Collectionsi. Still, if you love old Atari games, you can’t go wrong with these collections.

Namco Museum Archives Vol. 1 gets a 7.5 out of 10.

Namco Museum Archives Vol. 2 gets a 7.0 out of 10.

Digital codes were provided for this review. Both Namco Museum Archives Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 are out now for the Nintendo Switch!
