Fate of Atlantis DLC Review in Progress

Thanks to our friends at Ubisoft Canada, we have been given the opportunity to take the Fate of Atlantis DLC for a spin, and post our thoughts about the three part DLC adventure. This second major DLC release builds off the first in positive ways, which we will address shortly. With two chapters down and one to go, I’m thuroughly enjoying yet another romp through the world of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.

Accessibility is the name of the game with this release, as there are no main-story prerequisite quests to complete before jumping into Fate of Atlantis, unless of course you want to bring your main character over to this adventure. If you just want to create a character and begin adventuring, you can right from the get go. While most Odyssey owners have played through a good portion of the main game, it]s still a benefit to not lock this DLC behind a progression wall, like the first DLC release was.

Elysium is where this story takes us first, it’s own world within the world of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, with new things to see, loot to grab, and so much more. With a new world comes new puzzles, people, and of course, many many gods! And during your first few hours with the DLC, you will meet many of these gods as you work to take control of Elysium for reasons I won’t divulge. Fantastic cut scenes pull the experience all together, filling in those story gaps and pushing you forward to your next goal.

When entering Elysium, you get that feel of similar, but different. Everything here is much more mythical and magical than it was during the main quest line for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, and while this feels a bit out of place in the games context, it works perfectly with the source material Ubisoft is drawing from. In fact, the Fate of Atlantis is DLC I didn’t realize I needed to own, for story and lore purposes. Now that I’ve played it, any AC Odyssey experience in the future would feel incomplete without it.

When I saw the end of Episode 1, and loaded up Episode 2, the instant contrast hits you like a ton of bricks. Gone is Elysium, and instead, you descend on the underworld. While smaller in scope than Elysium, Hades is no less interesting. Again, the development team has chalked the world full of interesting things to do and see, which makes for a fantastic, albeit different, experience from the first episode.

With so much great content packed into Episode 1 and Episode 2 of Fate of Atlantis, I cannot wait to see what comes next! Stay tuned for the conclusion of this review!
