Nintendo of America Lowers 2DS Price and Announces Two New Games

Nintendo of America announced today that they will be lowering the price of the 2DS and they announced two new 2DS/3DS games for later this year. Check out the news and my thoughts about it below!

Nintendo will be lowering the price of the 2DS to $79.99 in North America. The new price will take effect on May 20th. The 2DS was already the least expensive Nintendo product at $99.99. This new price drop will most likely give the 2DS a huge boost and the fact that some 2DS systems come with Mario Kart 7 makes this deal even better.

I don’t have a 2DS myself, but my dad has one and he likes it a lot. I think the system is pretty neat and at $79.99, its very much a steal. I’d say if you have the money and you don’t have a 3DS system yet, this would be the one to get. Well, as long as you don’t care about the 3D! I think the 3D on the 3DS can be a bit of a mixed bag, sometimes great and many times not so great, so its really no big loss. The 2DS would be especially good for any kids who want to play 3DS games!

The lowering of the 2DS price wasn’t the only announcement from Nintendo today. Nintendo also announced two new games that’ll be coming to the 2DS/3DS later this year.

The first is Style Savvy: Fashion Forward! The game will be coming on August 19th. Here’s how Nintendo describes it in their press release:

” Style Savvy: Fashion Forward, the third game in the Style Savvy series, gives players a sense of accomplishment by putting them in charge of one of five exciting professions. Players can immerse themselves in a world of fashion by owning a boutique, designing clothes, styling hair, applying makeup or becoming a model. When players make themselves look good, customers who visit their boutiques might start adopting the player’s style. The game includes over 19,000 different articles of clothing, items and accessories to choose from. Players can also learn real-world fashion tips from the Fashion 101 guide. To access Nintendo character-themed clothing and accessories in the game, players can tap select amiibo figures to a Nintendo 2DS, Nintendo 3DS or Nintendo 3DS XL system using the Nintendo 3DS NFC Reader/Writer accessory to trigger an event. Once the event is completed, players can get the special items. The amiibo and Reader/Writer accessory are sold separately. The New Nintendo 3DS and New Nintendo 3DS XL systems feature a built-in NFC reader for amiibo. ”

I don’t have any interest in this game, but I could definitely see some Animal Crossing and Happy Home Designer fans being excited for this game. It does appear to have a bit of a Happy Home vibe to it. For me, its just too “realistic”. I prefer sims like Animal Crossing or Harvest Moon and so the second game Nintendo announced today is more appealing to me.

The second game is Disney Magical World 2! It will be out on October 14th. Here’s how Nintendo describes it:

” Disney Magical World 2, the follow up to the popular franchise, lets players enjoy a variety of new adventures in six Disney-themed worlds, such as exploring the world of Disney Frozen, dancing with Disney princesses or soaring through special Magical Dream events. Players will encounter and interact with well-known characters like Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Elsa, Anna, Olaf, Ariel, Donald Duck and Daisy Duck. ”

I played the first Disney Magical World and liked it. The first one featured a lot of Disney characters and had gameplay that reminded me of Rune Factory, with a bit of Harvest Moon and Animal Crossing mixed in. The second one sounds even better though, especially with the Frozen world being added. I liked the Frozen animated movie and being able to explore it in a video game sounds fun. Disney Magical World 2 could be a game to keep an eye on. Man, this is making want to play the first one again…

With the announcement of the 2DS price drop and the two new 2DS/3DS games, it looks like 2016 is going to be a great year for Nintendo’s portable systems!

What do you think about the 2DS price drop? Does it make you want to buy the system? Also, are you looking forward to Style Savvy and/or Disney Magical World 2? Let us know in the comments!
