More Thoughts From Me: Final Fantasy Strangers
I checked out Strangers in Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin over its free weekend on Xbox. I had heard bad things about this for the most part. What did I think of it? Here are my thoughts on Strangers in Paradise.
Strangers in Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin is a prequel to Final Fantasy 1. And this is very obvious early on in the game, when Garland (from FF1) appears. Then he’s mentioned. A lot. The four warriors of light legend appear too. So the connection to FF1 is obvious and its wonderful.
Despite that connection, the game is very different from what FF1 is. The main characters are hipper and more modern. Do I wish they were more like classical FF characters? I absolutely do. That said, I did end up liking the characters and the story. I also loved the gameplay.
Strangers in Paradise is an action game, not a turn-based rpg. The battle system is pretty cool though. I also love the loot collecting, enemies are constantly dropping items. There’s a lot of treasure chests to find too. Another thing I loved is the job system. Each job has a cool skill tree and each job feels unique.
I’m also very happy about the enemies in the game. Seeing the Bomb and the Cactus, shooting freaking 1,000 Needles at me was awesome. Even though I died. Maybe especially since I died. I didn’t go back that way.
Strangers in Paradise hooked me. I loved exploring the dungeons and seeing more of the story. I wish I owned this game. I only got to play it over its free weekend on Xbox. If its ever on sale for cheap (or if it was on gamepass I’d download it), I will likely pick it up though. It was a ton better than I thought it would be!
Yes, it would’ve been even better if it had more retro character designs and a turn-based battle system, but still, it is a good game.
What do you think of Strangers in Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin? Do you like this game?
