What Makes Hogwarts Legacy So Special?

If you’ve been a long-time Harry Potter fan then Hogwarts Legacy is probably a video game you have been interested in. But can a game set so far before the movies and books actually be that good? After all, there won’t be any running around with the likes of Harry, Ron, or Hermione! After playing for over 100 hours with all four houses, I can tell you that Hogwarts Legacy is a gem, and I cannot wait for more.

See, Hogwarts Legacy is more than just a game with a story. It is a realization of a place we have only dreamed about, only to be seen in movies, and detailed in books. Previous Harry Potter games have done an OK job of showing the grandeur of Hogwarts, but none of them have done it to this degree. LEGO Harry Potter, in my opinion, brought us the closest to actually exploring the massive school, but even that was limited at best. Hogwarts Legacy, however, does so much more.

You could argue there are a few things missing from the experience. I would love to be able to walk the few blocks of London around the Leaky Cauldron, explore the Ministry of Magic in detail, and more. But that is locked for now, but perhaps could be the settings for further games in this brand new franchise? Could we see what wizard life in North America was like? The options are endless, and it will depend on how far WB will want to take it.

But let’s get back to Hogwarts Legacy. I could go on and on about the story in the game, but I want you to experience that for yourself. Instead, I need to get across how beautiful the world is, how detailed the castle is, and that despite it being set 100s of years before Harry Potter, the magic is still within the walls of Hogwarts.

And that comes from the ability to explore spots that the books and movies showed me. I get to check out the Astronomy Tower, the lake, and the Gryffindor common room. I can run through the restricted section, hide in the trophy room, and explore the 3rd floor corridor. I can check out the defence against the dark arts classroom, the potions classroom, and the greenhouse. And I can head into Hogsmeade and see the various shops and stalls. Add the ability to wander the grounds around all of these places, and you have something that feels different.

It’s not your typical open world game with random places and characters slapped all over to provide a sense of grandeur. It is a places we have read about for years, explored with our minds and our eyes, and so much more. Now it’s real, and it’s 100% worth playing if you are a fan!
