More Thoughts From Me #264: What about Zelda?
Mario day is over but Nintendo is not done celebrating Mario’s big anniversary yet. Nintendo’s big focus is still on their famous plumber. But what about the Legend of Zelda’s 35th anniversary?
During Nintendo’s most recent Direct, we all thought that Legend of Zelda 35th anniversary plans would be announced. Instead one game, Skyward Sword HD, was announced and no new Breath of the Wild 2 footage was shown.
We did not get a Zelda collection or any kind of big Zelda blowout like many of us thought.
Nintendo is still celebrating Mario’s anniversary. At least until the end of this month. After the 31st, Mario 35 will end, Super Mario 3D All-Stars will disappear from the eshop, and Nintendo will shut up about Mario forever…
Okay, so maybe not that last one.
Still the Mario focus should be…oh wait…a new Mario Golf is coming out in June…
Yes Skyward Sword HD is coming out after that but…is this the only game we will be getting this year for Zelda? Where’s the Legend of Zelda’s big anniversary blowout?
Well, it is possible that after March is over Nintendo may announce Zelda 35 plans. Hopefully we’ll see a Nintendo Direct mini focused on all things Zelda. What could we possibly see though?
I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw another Zelda game announced for this year, new Breath of the Wild 2 footage, and maybe Zelda 35 in the same vain as Mario 35. Here’s hoping we’ll see some Zelda items added to Animal Crossing New Horizons. I really want that Master Sword on my island!
A lot of people are hoping for a Legend of Zelda All-Stars like game but I’m not sure thats in the cards. It would be a much more complex undertaking I think than the Mario collection. Hmm.
Nintendo is so unpredictable though. We think we know what they are up to and most of the time, we are totally wrong.
I love Nintendo but they never do exactly what fans expect. So maybe we’ll see a Zelda 35 celebration and maybe we won’t.
What do you think? Will Nintendo celebrate the Legend of Zelda’s 35th anniversary?
More Thoughts From Me is an opinion column. The thoughts expressed here are mine and mine alone. I am excited to play Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword HD though.
