Black Legend

Black Legend is a dark, very adult strategy rpg for the Nintendo Switch. Is this another game that strategy rpg fans should check out? Here is our review of Black Legend!

Black Legend has you exploring and fighting in a cursed medieval town. The story is interesting but the gameplay is really Black Legend’s focus.

The game is a turn-based strategy rpg that looks more like a PC Diablo than something like Final Fantasy Tactics. It is very dark and a bit muggy looking. It is far from the best looking game on the Nintendo Switch.

However for fans of PC strategy/dungeon crawlers, you may find something here you like. The battle system is not bad. I like how quick it is to get in and out of battle. The controls take a moment to get use to but once you do, they are pretty easy. Exploration is very Diablo-like and easy. The same can not be said for looking through the game’s menus.

Black Legend’s character menu system could be a bit better. It feels cumbersome. Changing classes and looking at what abilities you have could especially be easier. Thankfully you won’t be spending too much time in the menu. The majority of the game is exploring, finding loot, and getting into battles. The gameplay isn’t perfect but there is some fun to be had.

There are better strategy rpgs on the Nintendo Switch, but Black Legend’s hybrid of dungeon crawling and strategy may appeal to some PC inclined rpg fans.

Black Legend feels like a game that belongs more on PC than Nintendo Switch, however its always great to have more variety and game choices on the system. There is an audience for this game and I hope it finds it.

Black Legend gets a 6.5 out of 10.
