More Thoughts From Me #261: Bravely or Default

Recently, I finally finished the Bravely Default 2 Final demo. And I have some thoughts on the game’s battle system!

It took me awhile to finish the Bravely Default 2 demo. I had stopped playing it for a bit and then went back to it, stopped, went back it, etc. I liked the demo but I found it pretty hard. But then, I saw a video that Nintendo put out that explained the battle system and I finally got it!

I had been going all in on Brave, throwing lots of things at the enemies. This worked on regular battles some, however on boss battles it was not a great strategy. The boss battle I was stuck at for awhile did not like this strategy.

A Square Enix video explained the Brave/Default situation though. If you don’t understand Brave and Default within this game, I suggest checking out this video:

Whew. This helped a lot. It really is important to know the difference between Brave and Default and when to go all in or just save up points to later go all in and still have some room to move on the next turn. You have to especially be careful during boss battles.

A strategy of normal attack/healing and defaulting is usually the right answer. Though I suppose it will depend on the bosses in the end. Speaking of  the end, after I finally defeated the enemy I stuck at, there was only a little bit more left of the demo! I finished it out.

And then I was given two extra hours to just play around! I haven’t finished out those hours yet.

Oh and of course I have a new thing about Bravely Default 2 that I’m not sure I understand: its card game! Whoa.

That is a bit complicated. I think I kind of get it but not exactly. Still I want to play it a bit more and can’t wait to dig into it in the final game.

Bravely Default 2’s final demo is a really good look at this game. If you haven’t checked it out, I suggest doing so. You get six hours to play and then some extra time once you finish the demo. It’ll give you a pretty good idea if Bravely Default 2 is for you or not.

So far, I think its pretty cool. I like the battle system, the jobs (Beastmaster!), the graphics, and more. Hopefully its got an awesome story too.

What do you think of Bravely Default 2? Are you looking forward to it? Bravely Default 2 is out this Friday!

More Thoughts From Me is an opinion column. The thoughts expressed here are mine and mine alone. I’m looking forward to checking out the full game!
