More Thought From Me Special Edition: A Really Good Direct

Nintendo just had their Nintendo Direct and it was really good. It wasn’t mind blowing, like I thought it would be, but there were four moments where I freaked out and one where I laughed. I want to focus on those things and less so on the other stuff. Spoiler Warning if you haven’t seen the Direct yet (I’m putting it below. So go check it out)

Nintendo’s 50 minute Direct today was packed with a lot of stuff. I would say there was a lot of not-so-good stuff in there. I thought that this Nintendo Direct would be wall-to-wall goodness. Instead, I found that there were four big things that freaked me out. I’m happy, don’t get me wrong, but I can understand if there are people that are not.

First of all, let’s talk about the moment that made laugh. Right at the start, I thought we were getting a new Xenoblade Chronicles 2 DLC or game. Nope! Pyra/Myrtha from Xenoblade Chronicles 2 are the next Smash Bros Ultimate DLC! lol. That was such an awesome and funny troll. I loved it. They look really good in the game. Looks like other characters from Xenoblade Chronicles 2 will be showing up too.

Okay, lets get to my first freak out moment: there is going to be a new Mario Golf! I love Mario Golf and this one looks amazing. Speed Golf will be fun and funny. And oh my gosh: the Story mode looks fantastic! RPG elements and a very nice 3D golf hangout area to look around in. Wow. I am looking forward to this game alot.

And now I have to mention the Animal Crossing New Horizons Mario items! Nintendo went above and beyond what I thought they’d do with this. So many Mario items are being added to New Horizons: from question mark blocks to coins to stars and beyond (Mario and Luigi clothes!). The best item though? There is going to be a useable Warp Pipe! We’ll be able to go down a pipe to go to another part of our island?! WHAT!? I seriously freaked out here. The update is coming at the end of February but we won’t get the items till March 1st. sigh. I don’t wanna wait.

As much as I freaked out about the AC Mario items, the next reveal caught really me off guard( and perhaps excited me more if thats possible). With Bravely Default right around the corner, I did not expect Square to reveal a new rpg for the Nintendo Switch. I was even less prepared for a strategy rpg! It looks like Octopath Traveler with a dash of Final Fantasy Tactics! Wow. Project Triangle Strategy (working title) isn’t coming till next year, but there will be a downloadable demo for it available TONIGHT. I will be getting the demo and have first thoughts on it tomorrow here at GamesReviews.com

The last moment that delighted me was the reveal of Skyward Sword for the Nintendo Switch. I love that game. Skyward Sword HD is going to be a must play for me. Oh and I like motion controls but I was so happy when they revealed you can play it with button controls in portable and on TV mode. Very nice. The new Skyward Sword joycons looks so good too!

So those are the big moments that made me very happy.

Of course I should mention the reveal of Splatoon 3. That was surprising. I did not see that coming. Its not out till next year though. It looks good. I’m sure there are some people freaking out about it. I was shocked but I don’t know. I need to see more of this one. Will it just be more of the same? There was hints that it might not be and then it went into the normal type of Splatoon gameplay. I thought at first it was a Splatoon action adventure game. That would’ve been very cool. More of the same though? Hmm. Well, we’ll see.

Also The Age of Calamity DLC was a good announcement. However they didn’t really show too much of it and just listed the contents. I wonder how hyped people are for that Expansion Pass. Still its good to see more added to that cool game.

I want to mention one indie game: The Outer Wilds. That game looks AMAZING. I want to play that. I love space travel, I love time loops, and that looks like a ton of fun.

Overall, like I said, it was a really good Nintendo Direct. I wouldn’t say it was anywhere as mind blowing as I thought it would be. I can see people who don’t care about AC, Skyward Sword, Mario Golf, or a new strategy rpg from Square Enix being unhappy with this Nintendo Direct. I’m sure not everyone is pleased by Pyra/Mythra being the Smash characters…

Hmm. Well, you can’t please everyone. I hope you did find something in the Nintendo Direct that made you happy. I’m sure Nintendo still has some more secrets in store for us. We do know that we’ll find out more about Breath of the Wild 2 later this year!

What did you think of today’s Nintendo Direct?

More Thoughts From Me is an opinion column. The thoughts expressed here are mine and mine alone. I need those Animal Crossing Mario items right now!!
