Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero Demo Impressions
A demo of Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero was released last week on the Nintendo Switch. I’ve checked it out and now has some thoughts on what I played.
Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero is a strategy-rpg from NIS America. The game has a unique story where a girl who can talk to spirits and her best friend sail the world and quickly get separated. The girl meets new friends and hopes to be reunited with her friend. The new friends include pirates and other spirits (aka Phantoms).
The story is interesting and has some fun dialogue. The game’s graphics are super cute too and remind me of Disagea (also by NIS America) a little, though a bit more colorful. The gameplay is the most charming aspect of the game though!
In Phantom Brave, you meet a phantom who will help you out but you have to put (aka confine) her into a nearby object. The object you put the phantom into will be where that character stands and will determine just how long the character stays in battle with you.
There is a little bit of a time limit with certain items. A phantom confined within a rock seems to stick around longer then one confined in a bush.
And yes, you get more than one phantom helping you out. After the intro to the game, you get access to a character creator and classes. The character creator is a bit limited because you only get to pick the color of the character and their name. It would’ve been nice if you could have created more their look much like Dragon Quest 9. Ah well. You should definitely try the random name generator though because its hilarious. Some of the names! WHOA.
The more classes you create, the more allies you have for battle. You also get to create some characters that are more use to you out of battle like a merchant for buying items and in chapter 2, an angler for fishing up items and a chef for a juice bar. The facilities are pretty neat.
The battles in Phantom Brave are a lot of fun. There’s no grid but each character a limited area in which they can walk around in the battle per turn. Yes it’s a turn-based battle, you take your turn and then the enemy takes theres and then back to you. I love the way battles work and the confining adds a uniqueness to the battles.
Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero seems like it’ll be a good game. It looks like as you progress in the game you’ll unlock more things to do in and out of battle and continue to check out the game’s fun story. Hopefully I’ll get to check out more of this game in the future.
