Marenian Tavern Story: Patty and the Hungry God Preview

Marenian Tavern Story: Patty and the Hungry God came out yesterday for the Nintendo Switch. My review of this game isn’t ready yet, but I wanted to provide our readers with my thoughts so far on the game. Is this an rpg/sim you’ll want to play?

Marenian Tavern Story is part Little Dragon’s Café and part turn-based rpg. In this game, you run a small bar that you are trying to turn into a success. In order to do that, you must go out and collect stuff to make new meals for your tavern. You’ll also find yourself fighting off monsters via a turn-based rpg battle system.

The battle system in Marenian is an old school turn-based system with a bar that tells you when it’ll be your turn. I’m enjoying the battle system so far, but it should be noted that I’m pretty biased when it comes to old school rpgs!

Meanwhile, running the bar and cooking up items hasn’t hooked me yet. It looks like its going to be difficult to find the right materials for some dishes and running the bar is pretty simple, you just open the bar and customers walk in. You can even skip the customers coming in sequence. I’m not sure how much I’m going to enjoy this game’s sim elements. Hopefully this part of the game gets more interesting!

As for the game’s graphics, they are really good. The characters and areas you’ll explore are all really well drawn. Merenian is a fine looking old school rpg.

At the moment, I really like Marenian Tavern Story: Patty and the Hungry God. Its not perfect but it has potential. I’ll try and have a review of this game sometime next week here at GamesReviews.com!

KEMCO provided us with a code for this game. Marenian Tavern Story: Patty and the Hungry God is now available on the Nintendo Switch eshop!
