DRIVECLUB Delayed Till 2014

Sony and Evolution Studios have today announced that DRIVECLUB will be delayed into 2014. Despite it initially being a launch title, and a big part of the first PS4 PlayStation Plus, the decision to delay was made so that the team at Evolution could “deliver on their vision.”

From the PlayStation Blog:

We understand that the delay is disappointing news, but can assure you that the reason we have made this decision is to ensure that when DRIVECLUB launches, it will realize the next gen racing vision.

DRIVECLUB looked to be the first big driving game on the PlayStation 4, and a true demonstration of what next-gen titles – specifically multiplayer titles – might deliver. With both it and Watch Dogs delayed, a lot of people will find their PlayStation 4 launch to be quite a bit different then they’d envisioned.

Originally going to be available as a free-to-play title via PlayStation Plus, DRIVECLUB has now been replaced by Contrast. Contrast is an interesting platformer that uses shadow and light. While it might not have the instant HD-glimmer of DRIVECLUB, it still looks interesting, and this whole thing is probably pretty great news to those that weren’t entirely fascinated with a racing game as their first PlayStation 4 title.

There’s been no new release date announced, although DRIVECLUB will be available at retail and on PlayStation Plus in early 2014.
