Rock Band Lands in October, Who’s Excited?

It has been many years since Rock Band released a new game. In that time, many people thought these musical games were basically done, gone, forever forgotten. Between Guitar Hero, Rock Band, and a number of other less impressive titles, people got worn out on the plastic instrument games.

I’m going to be honest. I was worn out. All my plastic guitars and drum sets, both for Guitar Hero and Rock Band, have since vanished from my house. I think my youngest brother uses them to pretend he is a rock star. Others have broken and been thrown away, or sold at garage sales. In my opinion, the genre was dead, at least to me.

When the newest Rock Band title was announced, as a games writer, I knew I had to keep up to date on what was going on. Did I want to play a new Rock Band? No. Did I want instruments in my house again, taking up space? Nope. But, it was partially an obligation to the people who read this website to stay on top of big news like this.

So, I did what most reviewers do. I hunted down a PR contact for Harmonix and made that connection. It took may be two weeks before I was checking out @nickchester’s Twitter account on a daily basis looking for updates on Rock Band. I had a renewed excitement for the franchise. Watching all the videos from numerous conferences, and hearing about songs that would be included in the game, made me want Rock Band more then ever.

I really cannot put a finger on why I did a complete 180 on Rock Band. Perhaps it was the desire to get back into playing games with friends in the same room, something current developers are slowly moving away from more and more often. Perhaps it was the desire to play some classic rock songs that are no longer played on radio stations in my area. Or perhaps it was pure excitement for what might be. What might Harmonix change in this version to renew interest?

There is so much to be excited for when it comes to Rock Band. We have put in a request for a review unit, but regardless of whether we receive one prior to launch, at some point we will be doing an in depth look into Rock Band, and posting videos of how terrible we are at it. Stay tuned to Games Reviews for more information, and make sure to follow @rockband on Twitter for more up-to-date information.
