More Thoughts From Me #87: Its Time For Adventure!

I was going to write about third party games and the Switch this week but my heart wasn’t really in it. I do hope third parties continue to come to the system, but I just felt like there was something else I needed to be talking about. And then it came to me: ADVENTURE GAMES. Why adventure games? Because this genre is making a huge comeback lately, especially on Nintendo Switch.

Hopefully on the day this is posted, there will also be a review by me for a game called Thimbleweed Park for Nintendo Switch. I won’t spoil that review, but I will say that I love the genre that it takes place in and I’m extremely happy that even more games like this will be coming to the Nintendo Switch.

I use to play Adventure games so much on the NES and some on the PC. Over the years though, the adventure genre faded away and these games just became memories to me. However, very recently, we’ve seen Adventure games come back. Games like Oxenfree and Kentucky Route Zero have appeared elsewhere. I didn’t know about them though since I don’t have those systems. They came on my radar thanks to the developers deciding to do Nintendo Switch ports!

So we already have Thimbleweed Park and another game called Kingdom New Lands on Nintendo Switch. Not only that but The Long Reach, Syberia, State of Mind, and other Adventure games are planned for the system too! And Telltale Games are bringing their Batman and Guardians of the Galaxy (!!!) adventure games to the Switch.  Its just amazing that Nintendo’s newest system is getting so many Adventure games for the eshop. I hope they get a new audience too so we can continue to see these amazing games on the system.

I’m hopeful that I’ll get to review some of these Adventure games for the Switch. I got to visit Thimbleweed Park and I’m hoping to visit those other places to and to spread the word about this genre!

The Nintendo Switch is such a wonderful system for rpgs and adventure games. I think this system is going to end up being one of my favorite systems ever!

What do you think about Adventure games on the Switch? Which of these games are you planning to pick up?

Next week: I’ll surprise you. What? Its not like I don’t know what I’m going to write about….

More Thoughts From Me is an opinion column. The thoughts expressed here are mine and mine alone. I want to go play Thimbleweed Park again.
