Hyrule Warriors Nintendo Direct

Hyrule-Warriors

Yesterday Nintendo released a direct focused specifically on Hyrule Warriors. Last week, I wrote about my hands-on time with Hyrule Warriors. One of the things I heard from many people was that this game was bound to be boring. Well, after this direct, there ae bound to be a few converted Zelda fans.

Nintendo announced new playable characters – Gorons and Zora’s now! – the ability to use all the classic Zelda weapons and a few new ones, and adventure mode that uses the older Zelda titles as the selection screen. This game has just received an extra dose of Zelda, and it works.

One of the more interesting aspects of the video was what random things from past Zelda games will make an appearance in Hyrule Warriors. These items include the moon from Majoras Mask, those always lovable Cucco, the always annoying Chain Chomps from the Mario series – to fit into the Zelda theme, Chain Chomps made a special appearance in Links Awakening – and many more. Grass cutting is also going to be a feature in the game, so get ready to slice through miles and miles of grass looking for those rupees and hearts!

For those worried that this was just a hack-and-slash type of game, there also appears to be some character weapon customization (will use slots to power up weapons), as well as character leveling, both staples of the Dynasty Warriors series; however, gamers that haven’t ever played Dynasty Warriors were generally worried about the depth the game could have. Those fears should be settled, at least a little bit.

Perhaps Nintendo could have done more with this Direct. GamesReviews’ own Mat Growcott was a little disappointing that there were not more big character reveals, and perhaps a tease of Link – or any other character for that matter – riding around Hyrule Field on Epona. Regardless though, more has been announced, and this is only a good thing going forward. With a bit of time left until launch, more can yet be revealed.

The direct is packed with information, and I’ve only scratched the surface. Be sure to check out the video when you get a chance. However, its safe to say that my anticipation for this game just went from mildly interested desperately wanting it. Yes, one video can change an opinion that quickly.

Oh ya. I forgot. You can play as Ganondorf now too.
