Disney Infinity 2.0 Coming in August

Disney-Infinity-2.0

Disney Infinity did well and took a reasonable market share from Activision’s Skylanders. Recognisable characters and included toys meant it was the must-have game amongst a certain demographic. Not to rest on their laurels, Mickey Mouse and friends accidentally announced Disney Infinity 2.0 today – with Marvel heroes joining the fray to boot.

The announcement, teased on Marvel.com and then clarified by D23 (the official Disney fan club), has since been removed from the web, but can be viewed via Google Cache. They even managed to give us a vague release date: August 2014. That’s about a year after the release of the last game.

It stands to reason that you should be able to use all your old toys, but you can expect a fresh batch of 2.0 exclusive characters as well. With more than a couple of Marvel films of the horizon, The Avengers and the Guardian of the Galaxy are almost certainly going to make an appearance, but Disney also have the advantage of being able to use Spidey and The Fantastic Four, which they can’t utilize on the big screen.

With Marvel heroes joining Disney Infinity, there’s one obviously “next choice” on the horizon. Star Wars Episode 7 is happening soon, and we’ll probably have at least teaser trailers and interviews by the time Disney Infinity 3.0 rolls around. It’s almost a cert that we’ll see some Jedi action in the next iteration, but how will it be seeing Luke Skywalker bump shoulders with Peter Pan? Only time will tell.
