Iron Harvest Kickstarter to Launch Today

The first tagline on the Iron Harvest Kickstarter page is a historical, and incredibly intriguing one. The developers have written, “After World War 1, farmers found a plethora of unexploded ordnance, barbed wire, weapons, shrapnel and bullets while ploughing their fields. This was called the ‘Iron Harvest.'” As a long time History buff – with two degrees in the topic to my name – it was an intriguing start to what promises to be a phenomenal game coming to PC, Xbox One, and PS4. Want to know more about Iron Harvest, the old-school real time strategy game set in alternative reality 1920s? Read on!

We think there is a good few points why You should consider backing up this project.

We need new RTS games as not to many good ones released since Company of Heroes. We were putting some hopes to recently released Spellforce III , but this one end up not exactly what we expected.

The main art guy work is just stunning, if you never saw art of Jakub Rozalski then you definitely should check out some in our opinion this itself should raise attention to this production. 1920+ alternate world after WW1 was invented by Jakub and used in board game Scythe which made successful Kickstarter campaign collecting nearly 2 million dollars. For a board game we find it impressive.

The crew behind it. Beside the Jakub King Art (developer) manage to get the lead composer from the Witcher series and ESL Company of Heroes 2 champion. To sum up we could expect great graphics , good music and good game mechanics what else do we need?

For some, developer decision to use crowdfunding might be a disadvantage as we know know some projects and up in a mess, but again King Art team have three successful Kickstarter campaigns done, so they have necessary experience to do things right way. No publisher no pressure to push or drop things developer can actually listen to what people have to say. Surveys, discord discussion channels , alpha and beta access all those things build up a very positive image that guys would like to do it right. We hope it will stay that way.

RTS for PS4 and Xbox One and PC of course. If that will not make console people happy we do not know what will 🙂

Ok that is our view on the general things , but what actually game have to offer ?

Developer approach to RTS…

“We think that in a strategy game, tactics and planning should be more important than action and clicks per second” – playing RTS games since Dune 2 we couldn’t agree more on that approach. Strategy should ba a strategy not a click feest.

“Cover and armour plays a big role in the game. ”  – once again valid approach

“We think it has been too long since the last really great RTS single player campaign” – we all know how important multiplayer is in RTS games, but who did not liked Warcraft 3 campaigns ?

Fractions…

“There are three playable factions in the game, each with over a dozen individual units and three playable heroes”

– standard at this stage, but perfectly fine

“The Polania Republic is a large agricultural country with a long history. It is trying to maintain its status and territory, struggling with its aggressive neighbours: The Saxony Empire in the west and Rusviet in the east. Polania initiated a program to modernize its army while a large part of the country is still occupied by Rusviet forces. ”

“Rusviet is huge, powerful, and has unmatched industrial and population potential. However, the country is tired and worn out by the long war. People are frustrated, and the power of Tsar Nikolaj weakens. Mysterious Grigori Rasputin has become an extraordinarily powerful man and revolution is in the air… ”

“The Saxony Empire is one of the most influential countries in Europe, with powerful industry, developed cities, modern factories and a strong military tradition. After the unfavourable

conditions of surrender in the Great War, the current mood in the Empire is bad, and proud elites and humiliated aristocrats secretly oppose the Emperor’s appeasement policies.”

– Alternate setup as they say , but hell sound pretty familiar to (some) of us .

Heroes…

“In each campaign, you follow the story of one main character, who is joined by two other heroes (= 9 playable heroes in total).”

– all good here in our opinion

“Anna is the Polania hero. She is a girl thrown into a world of guerrilla warfare. She becomes a capable sniper and a symbol of resistance. Slowly, she uncovers her family’s role in the Great War and the Polania resistance” – hell yea!

“Gunter von Duisburg is an experienced warrior and a legendary commander of World War 1. He and his mech Brunhilde saw many battles – perhaps a few too many. ”

– typical Gunter

“Olga is a Rusviet spy and a confidant of the Tzar. She investigates incidents that might point towards a huge conspiracy in Rusviet and beyond. ”

– hell yea again!

Game Size / Content…

  • Three playable factions with over 40 unit types and 9 heroes.
  • Three single player campaigns with an overarching story (21 missions).
  • Singleplayer & Co-op skirmish matches
  • Singleplayer & Co-op challenge maps.
  • Competitive multiplayer (ranked matches, leagues).
  • Free DLCs & Updates.
  • If possible, we would like to make add-ons in the future, but for now we’re focused on the main game, one-hundred percent.

– sounds fair to us

“Co-op campaign: You can play the whole single player campaign with a friend, controlling the same units. So you can divide your units into two combat groups or one player plays the offense, while the other manages defence and production.”

– can not wait to try Co-op as it looks like great idea

System Requirements…

“Too early for that, but if your machine is 5-6 years old or newer when the game comes out, you should be fine.”

– not much info here so have to wait and see

Kickstarter campaign just begun today and manage to get 274,216$ so far from 450,000 goal which let us think they will get initial goal no problem and hopefully much more to reach most of the additional goals.
