Assassin’s Creed Freerunning to France

An Ubisoft leak courtesy of Kotaku seems to imply that at least part of the next Assassin’s Creed game will take place in France, at least in part. This isn’t just yet another location rumour though – this one comes with pictures. Despite the fact that it’s obvious this is a game in development, these Parisian landmarks actually look rather good.

A couple of things worth mentioning. These shots are from Assassin’s Creed Unity. That’s the codename for the new-gen only version of the franchise. 2014 will see two Assassin’s Creed games released, Unity and Comet, the latter will only be available on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. There should be a PC version of both games, although nothing is confirmed quite yet.

Secondly, you might notice the use of the phrase Parkour Up and Parkour Down in the control at the top right corner. That’s part of a new control scheme coming this year. How it will work isn’t actually revealed, but at a push we can guess that it has something to do with no longer having to hold down a button to run.

Assassin’s Creed V, presumably, has a lot to live up to. Assassin’s Creed IV was possibly the best game in the series, and got a lot of people excited about donning their white robe all over again. So far it looks like ACV is taking us back to basics, and will certainly be ditching the boat gameplay. It also doesn’t necessarily mean the entire game will take place in France. This is just one city, and it doesn’t necessarily mean it’ll be the main focus, or even the main location.

Expect this to be announced formally over the coming weeks and months, with video released showing how France is involved at E3. For more screens, check out Kotaku.
