Waking Violet

Waking Violet, out now on the Switch eshop, is a very interesting game. Its not a puzzle platformer, its just a puzzle game where you work your way through mazes. Thats the basic concept, but the game is a bit more complicated then that! Here is my review of Waking Violet for Nintendo Switch.

Waking Violet is a very challenging  puzzle game for the Nintendo Switch. In this game, you navigate Violet through devious levels full of tricky puzzles. These puzzles will have you pushing and destroying blocks, avoiding lasers, enemies, and making your way to the portal at the end of each level.

It cannot be overstated just how challenging these levels are. Its not always obvious how you get through a level. There are hints available, but even the hints can be a little vague. Waking Violet can be pretty frustrating but there are some cool features available with this game that help make it worth playing.

One of my favorite things about Waking Violet is that if you make a mistake, you can rewind what you did with the press of a button. The rewinding absolutely gives me Prince of Persia flashbacks. Its just as handy in this game as it was in that one.

I also love that this game makes use of the Switch’s video capture feature. More games are using this feature all the time and its an excellent way to share experiances and promote games that you love on social media.

Overall, the controls in Waking Violet are pretty straight forward and easy. Violet doe

s walk very slow, but otherwise, the controls are good.

I really like the look of Waking Violet too. The levels look very similar to each other, but they are well designed and the overhead view works for this game.

Waking Violet gets an 8.5 out of 10. Its a great puzzle game for the Nintendo Switch! A must download for fans of the genre. Just beware: frustration lives here. Though I believe that the game is worth it.

Thanks to MixedBag Games for providing a review code of this game. Waking Violet is now available on the Nintendo Switch eshop.
