More Thoughts From Me E3 Special Edition: Sony Blew My Mind

I liked what Microsoft did today, but I didn’t love it. Sony, on the other hand…well…look at the title of this article. Yes, Sony Blew My Mind. That was the one of the most amazing conferences I have ever seen. Let me tell you why. Welcome to the second More Thoughts From Me E3 Special Edition. This time its all about Sony.

GodofWar

It all started with an orchestra. Sony had a amazing orchestra (conducted by Bear Mccreary! WOW!) playing a song I didn’t recognize and it was just blowing me away. I felt like they could have just had the orchestra all night and I would’ve been happy. But then, Sony revealed the game that the music was from. It was God of War. I have never (ever) been a God of War fan. This game, though, looked amazing. The graphics were unlike anything I’ve seen before. And the gameplay looked just as good. I knew that Sony had already won E3. Then they showed the other games they had and things got even better!

Horizon

Sony showed so many games tonight. I’m not sure I can cover every single game they showed, but I’ll try to talk about the games that impressed me the most. Oh man, where do I even start? Ok, why don’t we talk about Horizon: Zero Dawn? I had never heard of this game before. I’m not sure if anyone else had. I’m so behind on Sony news, that its entirely possible this game isn’t new. Horizon looked a lot like the early previews we’ve seen of Zelda (but even better). The gameplay with the bow, especially, had me thinking about Zelda a lot. Riding the bull had me thinking about Zelda. Though, the whole thing about being able to take things from the robots and turning the robot bull to your side was different and jaw dropping. All I have to say is that Zelda better be more than amazing tomorrow. Horizon will be very tough competition. If Sony had just had God of War and Horizon, I would have been stunned, but they didn’t stop there.

Detroit

Detroit: Become Human was another game I had never heard of. One of the most fantastic things about Sony’s conference was that they didn’t rely just on franchises that were established. We got new games, like Detroit, that looked just as good if not better than the games that he had known about forever. Why is Detroit so impressive? Yes, the graphics looked great, but it was the gameplay that impressed me even more. Detroit is a game where choose the outcome of the game. The fate of the characters in the game are in your hands. Make a wrong decision and even your character can die. The game reminded me a bit of Heavy Rain, but even better. And if you think Detroit is the last game I want to talk about, you are so very wrong.

DaysGone

I didn’t know what to think of Days Gone at first. The trailer they showed looked really good, though it also looked a lot like the Walking Dead. Then later, at the end of the Sony conference, we saw live gameplay and Days Gone wowed me a lot. Yes, it still looked a bit like Walking Dead, but the creatures were something totally different from that show. They just kept on coming after the main character and wouldn’t stop! The trailer ended with the hero in a really bad place and I wanted to know if he made it out of there or not. I think thats one of the things that really carried over for most of Sony’s games: I cared about the stories being presented. Sony wasn’t just showing regular first person games or regular action games (like Microsoft). They were showing us games with stories. They were showing us games with characters we could care about too. It was like Sony was bringing the movie and video game experiance together. I loved every minute of it. Let me tell you about a few more games before you letting you go.

I’d like to mention some other things that impressed me about Sony’s E3 conference. Kojima’s new game with Norman Reedus was bizarre and stunning. I was so shocked when it turned out to be Reedus. I mentioned Walking Dead before because I’m a big fan of the show. This game with him could be a blast.

Something that had me going wow that I didn’t expect was Playstation VR. The game’s there were more beautiful then anything Microsoft or any of the others have shown for VR. Star Wars, Call of Duty, and Final Fantasy 15 especially blew me away. Though, ya, all the games from Sony tonight looked better then Microsoft’s games. I was saying that Microsoft’s games were pretty. I was wrong. These games are pretty; no they are beyond pretty.

And I just have to mention the Spider-man game from Insomniac. I’m a huge fan of Spider-man. This looked like it could be the best Spider-man game ever. Oh come on. Its from Insomniac, makers of Ratchet & Clank! Of course it’ll be the best Spider-man game ever. Whew.

Oh wait. I should mention the Last Guardian before I finish this up right? I thought the Last Guardian would never come out. As Sony showed the game again, I said to my dad “Now they need to show a release date. That would be great”. AND THEY DID IT. Finally the Last Guardian will be coming out. I think its going to be well worth the wait!

I could go on and on about Sony forever. I haven’t even looked to see what other people think yet. I had to get all of my thoughts done before I looked. I’m almost afraid that no one else liked this. I think that would be crazy though. Sony blew me away. Even my father who is even less of a Sony fan then me (I’m a Nintendo fanboy) was impressed. I think Sony won E3. I just don’t know how Nintendo will be able to top this…

What did you think of Sony’s E3 press conference? Did you love it as much as I did? What was your favorite game shown?

Tomorrow: NINTENDO! Please be awesome. Please surprise us a lot.

Note: I realize I forgot to talk about some games here. There were just so many games, like Resident Evil (that didn’t look like Resident Evil but still, wow) and others. So many others. Sorry if I forgot anything super important.

More Thoughts From Me is an opinion column. The opinions presented here are mine and mine alone. But I hope you all agree with what I just said anyway.
