NHL 19 Unveiled at NHL Awards

NHL 19 was officially unveiled during the NHL Awards last night, and fans went nuts for what is coming. Pond hockey, and lots of it apparently. Ready to take to the ice in September? Here is the launch trailer courtesy of EA Sports.

The cover athlete for this years installment is none other than PK Subban, which in my opinion was a great pick! It has yet to be seen if they will unveil a separate Canadian cover athlete for when the game launches in Canada, but seeing as Subban is a Canadian boy, I highly doubt that will happen.

What we do no from the announcement trailer is that NHL 19 will focus on everything from backyard rinks to the big time, and everything in between. This is more than likely going to factor in to the single player story campaign, which is likely to be brought over from other EA Sports franchises.

Here is a bit more from EA Sports,

In NHL 19, play on outdoor rinks and journey from the ponds to the pros in new and returning game modes. Compete with and against 200 of the greatest hockey legends to ever hit the ice, including Wayne Gretzky. Powered by cutting-edge new gameplay technology, experience explosive-edge skating that delivers more acceleration, speed and responsiveness.

It will be interesting to see if NHL 19 builds on the enhancements made in 18, or if they stick with the status quo in terms of mechanics, and add gameplay features such as story mode and more. I personally hope the developers find a way to create something new and unique for the franchise in terms of mechanics, to make the game more realistic than ever before.

NHL 19 is set to launch this September on Xbox One and PS4. A Nintendo Switch version has not been announced, and is unlikely to happen as the base of Nintendo Switch and NHL fans is probably fairly low. While Switch owners can hold out some hope, I wouldn’t hold your breath too long!
