The knowledge on how to play the game greatly lies in the ability to analyze the roulette payouts and odds critically. It is essential to know the probability of winning and the size of the house you are playing against if you want to obtain the most out of a single spin of the wheel.

Let’s consider the roulette odds at the entry by analyzing the casino house edge which is the advantage a casino house has over a player. For instance, the house advantage for the European Roulette stands at 2.70% while the house advantage for the American Roulette is at 5.26%. These form the most basic probabilities of the roulette machine.

However, we need a deepened concept of other odds to further your understanding of the  roulette games and the chances of winning big. Let’s take the American roulette as an illustration and look at your likelihood to win with a number of bet combinations in playing the roulette. The odds will ultimately lead to a similar house advantage for close to all the bets.

The American roulette is made up of 38 points in total, 1-36, then a zero and a doubled zero. In the 1-36 count, half of the number points are black, the remaining half is made of red, the half of slots are even, and the other half of slots are odd points. The points 0 and 00 are coloured green.

Here are some of the bet combinations that will greatly enhance your chance to win.

  • Evens/Odds, Red/Black, 1-18/19-36

For every single bet, you have a higher chance of securing almost half the available options on the wheel. The 1:1 winning probability is not common with the rest of the roulette gaming options. With this, you have a solid reason to choose spinning the roulette wheel in preference to other games. Even better, 0 and 00 are not counted, giving you a better chance to win. This bet, however, is not significantly rewarding in terms of the payout but it remains a bet that you can settle for if you want to stay away from risking much. The payout will only get higher if you choose to gamble more money on a bet. It’s, however, not prudent to lay down all your money on a single gamble as you could find yourself on a losing end.

  • Columns

Column betting pushes the pay relatively higher than in the option discussed above. Instead of 1:1, you will have a 2:1. Thus, it is the second best option. The bet equally covers a huge chunk of the felt but narrows down your options to less than a third. Numbers on the columns do not take a consecutive order, and the red-black split varies across the columns. 0 and 00 points are not included when counting the columns.

  • Red-Second Column/Black-Third Column

This combination is specially meant for players who prefer hedging roulette bets. Column 3 of the roulette board has a total of 8 reds and 4 blacks, and the reverse holds for column 2.

If you are looking to slowly but consistently increase your returns, this is the layout you should look to take advantage of. Choosing to bet on the red-rich column then doubling your bet on the blacks results to a rare chance to come out even or make gains.

There are more reds in column 3 than any other column which means that if you bet on blacks, you will be less than half the wheel. Column 3 has a 2:1 payout and that of black is 1:1. And if you are looking to come out even: then your bet on blacks should be twice the bet on the columns. However, when a black point shows up in column 3, you are on the winning track. With this bet, your risk is at a minimum with more room to advance your wins.

  • Straight Up

It is recommendable if you are looking to have higher payouts and don’t mind risking much as well. You are required to bet on a single number and hope that it is your lucky day. Standing at 35:1, the pay for this bet is all irresistible, but the risk is equally high. With this bet, you can wager on 0 and 00 as well.

The probability that you will land on the exact number you wagered is 2.7%. Well, the assumption here is that you appreciate the fact that more winnings come at a cost and risking is inevitable.

  • The Split Bet

You are betting on an equally rewarding chance here but at a relatively lower risk. You will have the chips placed on two numbers occurring successively. You can have your placement done either horizontally or vertically. Placing a bet involves putting the chip on the line right between the two numbers.

A payout of 17:1 is relatively less compared to the straight bet. The chances that you land on these numbers are, however, twice higher than in the straight bet.

Conclusion

Roulette can be the most exhilarating game to play but not all too friendly in terms of house advantage and the odds. However, playing within the parameter of the above bet combinations will greatly enhance your chances to win. With all said, however, playing roulette is all fun and an equally rewarding way to spend your free time.
