Reasons Why Video Games Can Become the Future of Education

The discussion about the educative function of video gaming occupied media long ago. Since that time graphics became more attractive and realistic, stories became more interesting, and children are involved in the screen action. Gradually, educators and parents started to comprehend the potential of video games to educate children of different ages. Now it’s time to use video games consciously to educate children.

Reason #1: They Learn Unexpectedly

It may sound odd, but gaming helps develop a basic knowledge of English. Children playing video games in English can significantly improve their skills during cooperative activities where many players play simultaneously. Many parents from non-English speaking countries noticed that their children began speaking better English after long playing sessions. This feature is now used in video language courses. Learning is fun in this case, and in most cases, children don’t realize they’re actually learning when they play. They just start speaking better English!

Reason #2: Increased Concentration

Interestingly, Minecraft was recognized to be a very useful tool for children having such diseases as autism or ADHD. Minecraft helps develop creativity and increase focus. It also creates a favorable environment for children suffering from some types of neurotic mental disorders. The game is useful for normal children as well because it helps them stay concentrated. Teachers in elementary schools stated that children playing Minecraft are more concentrated during school lessons.

Reason #3: Quest Is a Good Idea for Education Purposes

Some universities use features of video games to encourage students to study by dividing tasks into several parts thus making quests. This is an approach which is often used in video gaming. This increases student’s involvement in the process, especially boys because they like to compete and win. Such a structure of lessons helps create tasks and reward students when they succeed to fulfill these tasks. Learning becomes fun and students really enjoy the process of studying.

Reason #4: Games Teach Learning from Failures

This is an important lesson a child can ever get. Learning from failure is important not only in class but in life as well. It’s essential to be able to accept failures as opportunities for learning because sometimes children perceive failure as a collapse.

Reason #5: Gaming Helps Develop New Learning Patterns

When playing, children unconsciously get to know many things. This motivates educators to find new educational patterns. For example, when people play, they automatically read notifications and thus can improve their writing skills that can be employed in resume writing help.

Perception of learning as a serious task is outdated. Learning can be fun, and this doesn’t decrease the power of education. In this way, gaming is a changing factor which is challenging for the existing education system. It helps prepare children for future life in a new reality and encourages students to employ new learning approaches.
