Is your PS4 using the full potential of your TV?

Issues with the way your PS4 connects to your TV might mean that you’re not getting the full benefit of your telly’s colour range. While not all makes and models are going to have issues, it seems that you might not be getting the full graphical potential. Thankfully there’s a simple fix that’ll sort the problem in seconds.

Discovered by Neogaf user Lowhighkang_LHK, it turns out that Sony’s latest sets your RGB settings to automatic by default, just like on the PlayStation 3. This is so that those who aren’t sure what their fiddling with get the most out of the console without actually having to touch their settings, which is fair enough – so long as it does the job it’s supposed to.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like it is. Even if your TV is capable of outputting the full range, your PS4 (under Automatic) might presume that it isn’t and set your output to limited. This is going to have an influence out how vibrant your colours are and how effective your shadows look.

To change this, simply go into your settings, look for sound and screen and then hunt out the RGB option. If your TV is capable of outputting at full (it should be obvious from looking at your TV’s menu), change the setting manually and your gaming experience could be quite a bit improved.
