Assassins Creed Origins

2017 was a great year for adventure titles, and there really just wasn't enough time to dive into everything was available. That being said, we've collected a few of our favorite games from 2017 below, ones we see as titles you just cannot miss playing. Let's see which games we felt were the best in 2017!

One of the more high profile titles we received with our review bundle was Assassin's Creed Origins, developed and produced right here in Canada at Ubisoft Montreal. From top to bottom, the reimagined Assassin's Creed title is phenomenal in more ways than one, and with only a few hiccups, it wasn't hard to slap an outstanding review score on this one. Assassin's Creed Origins is a fantastic experience from start to finish, and very few things made my cringe in my current 40 hour play through. Full disclosure: I haven't done everything you can do in this game yet, but am planning to do so. What I have done though, is experience all the new mechanics Ubisoft has included in the title, as well as completed what I consider a pretty good story, at least when compared to other Assassin's Creed titles! Although your original starting point of Siwa will be light on the restricted areas you can enter, when the large world of Assassin's Creed Origins finally does open up to you - especially in your first major city, Alexandria - you will realize that restricted zones are a dime a dozen. Enter them, and be prepared for a fight. Get spotted, and in certain situations, it is as good as a game over. There are ways to successfully enter, kill, and loot an entire location, but careful skill is needed to do this. Your weapon of choice in these situations? The Predator Bow.

One of the better features of Assassin's Creed Origins is to snap photos around the world of Ancient Egypt and share them with friends. While you begin exploring the world and consulting your map to see which outposts and camps you might have missed, you are bound to see a number of photo icons dotting your map. Those are not objective, but simply photos taken by others that you can look at. After spending about a half hour last night looking at a bunch of these photos, I realized on thing: Assassin's Creed Origins looks fantastic!

There are a number of things you can do in Assassin's Creed Origins that are never actually spelled out for you, and you'll need to learn to do it on your own. Some of these things are fairly minor and obvious, such as dipping your arrow in a fire to set it ablaze. Others, however, are not as obvious, and if it wasn't for all the good people on Twitter, I might have never known this was an option. I call it the Autopilot and Senu Scope technic, and it has changed the way I play Origins!

One of the defining features of the newest Assassin's Creed game is an all new combat system which takes into consideration your level v. the enemies level, and your equipment v. your opponents equipment. Gone are the days of wait, party, attack as you move through one enemy after the next. Now, it's a free for all that you better be prepared for!

When the Xbox One X gets launched later this year, there are two games I'm really looking forward to playing on the system for one very specific reason: the settings. The Xbox One X promises to produce some of the best looking graphics available on modern consoles, and companies have already been harnessing this power to create games that will look the best on Xbox One X. But why these two titles? Well, for myself, it's a personal decision based on settings.
