More Thoughts From Me #85: Holding Out My ARMS
Ever since I played the ARMS testpunch, I’ve wanted to play more of the game. Adam Roffel, editor-in-chief of GamesReviews.com, knew this and decided to send me a copy of the game. I got it in the mail yesterday and was able to play the game a bit more. Here are some more thoughts on ARMS for Nintendo Switch. I like the motion controls on ARMS a lot but this time around, I played the game with button controls. I’m…

When Nintendo first showed ARMS off, I thought it looked awful. Then I saw some more footage and I thought, well, it might be ok. But the more footage I saw of it, the less I liked how it looked. ARMS was boring me. I was pretty sure I’d never play it. However, I got a Nintendo Switch recently and Nintendo decided to bring the ARMS Testpunch (demo) back last weekend. I decided to check the game out. Does my…

The Nintendo Switch has had its share of ups and downs already in its short life cycle, and the system is adored by some and down right hated by others. During this first trip to E3 I had the distinct honor and pleasure of a Nintendo Booth tour and meeting with Julie Gagnon, from Nintendo Canada. In preparing for this meeting I reflected on my history with Nintendo, from Nintendo classic to SNES to Nintendo 64 and WiiU. I've had my share of joy from Nintendo Products over decades, from: Mario, Super Mario, Mario RPG, Wetrix, and Splatoon. To be honest, I hadn't played Nintendo games much over the past few years, but this visit felt like visiting a friend from my childhood.

If you haven't heard or played ARMS yet on the Nintendo Switch, there is a good chance you've been living under a rock. Although initially fans were unsure what to think, recent Testpunch events have changed the opinion of many, making ARMS one of the most intriguing releases this year. If ARMS was simply a 1v1 fighting game, perhaps it wouldn't have much mainstream success, but with the addition of many new modes and features, ARMS is poised to be one of Nintendo's biggest hits in 2017!

When I think of ARMS, I think of a crazy, 1v1 bash-em-up fighting game. OK, not a typical fighting game, but one where the farmers have cool gadgets instead of hands, and long springy arms. If you like that kind of thing, than that picture of ARMS probably sells you on the title, even if you never took part in any of the tests that have been ongoing. I'm not that guy, and that aspect of ARMS doesn't interest me in the slightest, at least not at the moment. What does interest me, however, is the loads of other modes built into the game!

With the ARMS Global Testfire complete, people have been flooding the internet with streams and opinions on Nintendo's latest IP. For myself, ARMS really reminds me of Splatoon when it was first announced and shown off. Until you get your hands on it, you are pretty skeptical of the overall appeal. I had zero faith in, or desire to play, ARMS, but when you help run a video game website, taking one for the team and playing a game you don't think you will like is a requirement. Surprise surprise: I liked ARMS a lot!
