Three People Who May Buy a Nintendo Switch Lite

With the Nintendo Switch Lite launch just around the corner, we thought we’d post 3 reasons why we would purchase an additional Nintendo Switch console, even if we already owned the full console with the dock and Joy-Con controllers. While our circumstances might be a bit different than yours, we hope one of these three reasons might resonate with you! Let’s dive in!

Thanks to Nintendo of Canada, we had the opportunity to go hands on with the Nintendo Switch Lite a few weeks ago. You can read that preview article HERE.

Number 1: Multiple Gamer Households

The Nintendo Switch is an expensive device, retailing in Canada for $399.99. Like my family, many homes across the country are populated with people willing and wanting to play video games of some kind. Unless you are playing multiplayer experiences, if there is only one Switch in the house, there can only be one person playing at once.

Enter the fantastically priced Nintendo switch Lite! For $259.99 – which is a whopping $140 off the original – families can add another Nintendo Switch Lite to the fold, allowing for multiple people to play their favourite Nintendo games all at the same time! While we don’t have a Lite yet, getting a second Switch for my wife was one of the best things we ever did!

Number 2: “Gaming on the Go” Gamers

The popularity of the Nintendo 3DS was not an accident. People lead busy lives, and for many, the time they spend in their homes can be limited to just eating and sleeping! As lives get busier, the opportunity to play video games quickly dwindles. The Nintendo 3DS gave users the opportunity to play their games anytime, anywhere.

For many, the addition of the dock and Joy-Con controllers just aren’t added features they will use often enough to justify the higher price point, and instead will look to the cheaper – and more durable in our opinion – Nintendo Switch Lite to satisfy those gaming cravings. The Nintendo Switch Lite is the perfect handheld device to replace – or be in addition too – the Nintendo 3DS.

Number 3: Supplemental Console

While this may come across as a slight against Nintendo, it really isn’t. The majority of home console owners are either playing on the Xbox One or the PlayStation 4 – these are their home consoles. This is where they play the latest Madden and Call of Duty, and where they play great exclusives like Spider-Man and Gears 5. For these gamers, the Nintendo Switch Lite could be their supplemental console, the one they play while a family member is watching TV, or when their favourite sports team is playing.

If the TV is available, these people are turning to their powerful Xbox and PS consoles, not the Nintendo Switch. But for those moments in between, the Switch Lite is the perfect companion. Without the need for the dock and Joy-Con controllers, they can save themselves $140, and still have almost every Nintendo Switch game at their fingertips.

What about you? Will you pick up the Nintendo Switch Lite? The Nintendo Switch Lite goes on sale this Friday, September 20 for a MSRP of $259.99 CAD.
