Assassin’s Creed Movie ‘Definitely Happening’

Michael Fassbender has confirmed that an Assassin’s Creed film is still in the works. Fassbender discussed the film that he’s co-producing and starring in during an interview with The Daily Beast.

Here’s the full quote:

That’s definitely happening. We’re just developing the script at the moment. I’d heard of it but had never played the game. I don’t have a video game player … that’s not what they’re called. [Laughs] I met up with the guys from Ubisoft and they told me the story behind it, and I thought it was very interesting—the idea of reliving memories.

The Assassin’s Creed film adaptation has been in progress for awhile now. In January of this year, it was revealed that British playwright Michael Lesslie was writing the first draft of the script. Over the Summer, Lesslie’s finished script went into the hands of Wolverine screenwriter Scott Frank for some tweaking and re-writes. Frank briefly mentions his role in Assassin’s Creed when he spoke with Creative Screenwriting last August:

I’m rewriting Assassin’s Creed right now, and what I love about it is that I’ve never adapted a video game before and it has its own set of challenges. Especially in the world of rewrites, I love trying to do something completely different if I can.

I could be wrong, but I’m fairly certain gamers interested in an Assassin’s Creed film might take issue with both Frank and Fassbender being unfamiliar with the source material. We shall see.

If all goes according to plan, the Assassin’s Creed movie will be released Summer 2015.
