Yo-Kai Watch 2 Demo Impressions

I liked the demo of the first Yo-Kai Watch but not enough to buy the game. I thought it was fun for a short time. So, when the demo for the second game came out, I was interested to see if I liked it as much as the first or better. Here are my impressions of the Yo-Kai Watch 2 demo!

Yo-Kai Watch 2 is a game that is directed toward Pokemon, Yo-Kai, and anime fans. I don’t fit into any of those categories. Even so, there were elements of the Yo-Kai Watch 2 demo that I really liked.

First of all, I have to mention the game’s graphics. Yo-Kai Watch 2 is a good looking game, especially in 3D. There is a lot of depth to the 3D in this title. It looks very nice.

I have mixed feelings about the game’s combat. I remember liking the combat with the first demo and the combat is pretty much the same here, but I didn’t seem as into it with this title. Its not a bad battle system, but I wish you had a little more control over your Yo-Kai.

The demo, overall, isn’t very long. You can extend the demo a bit by looking around town before you talk to the boy’s grandmother (after you talk to her, the demo’s story starts). There are some people to talk to, things to find, and enemies to fight around town. I liked exploring the town and fighting monsters. I’m a huge rpg fan, so these are definitely things I like to do.

The story presented in the demo was alright but the feel of the demo was very “kiddy.” Yo-Kai is directed toward a younger audience for sure. Thats not a bad thing. I’m not saying the story was awful, but it could have been better for sure. And it was too short tease of a tease for the actual game.

There is one more thing from the demo I should mention. You do get to play a mini-game in the demo called Yo-Kai Blasters. I’m not positive, but I think this is more of a multiplayer experience. In the demo though, you can only play by yourself in the Blasters game and its pretty tough playing it alone. I didn’t do good in the mini-game at all. It is very different from the main Yo-Kai game too. Blasters is an action game, while Yo-Kai regular is an rpg. I prefer the rpg over the action.

Overall, the Yo-Kai Watch 2 demo is neat. There are things I liked about it and things I didn’t. I would like to see more of the game, but I’m not sure if I’d buy it. Yo-Kai Watch 2 seems like something Pokemon fans and fans of the series would enjoy more than me. Even so, there’s just something about Yo-Kai Watch that interests me and I can’t completely put my finger on it. Maybe its the rpg elements? I’m not totally sure…

Have you played the Yo-Kai Watch 2 demo? What did you think of it?
