Why You Should Buy a 360

While the allure of the new systems will entice a lot of people, take a step back and ask yourself: is it really worth it?  I have played PS4 and the graphics capability of that system are outstanding.  I’ve also had the privilege of playing the Xbox One, and the innovation that is on display in that system is definitely a sign of good things to come.  But is buying any one of these systems truly worth it, especially right now?

My belief is no.  I borrowed an Xbox One for a weekend and had Zoo Tycoon, Forza, and Assassins Creed 4 at my disposal.  By Monday, I had played more of my Xbox 360 then the Xbox One.  Microsoft has made it very beneficial to keep my older system around through a number of key sales on high end games.  This past week was Microsoft’s “7 Days of Deals.”  During that sale, I was able to pick up Mass Effect (4$), Motorcross Madness (2$), Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons (4$), Skyrim (10$), and Oblivion (3.50$).  And these are only the games I have purchased.  I could have had enough quality games to last me until Christmas if I had wanted too.

This is not the first time Microsoft has deeply discounted digital games.  A few months ago I was able to pick up Tales of Vesperia for only 4$.  Games with Gold has also been a very successful idea for Microsoft; for those that have been 360 owners for years, the free games such as Fable and Halo are not that great.  However, for a new owner, these games are fantastic, and they are free.

As far as I know, Sony has done similar things with PlayStation Plus, offering deeply discounted games and even free games on occasion.  And again, there is quality stuff, not just shovel ware.    

If you find yourself at the store and don’t own a Microsoft or Sony console, consider taking a cheaper 360 or PS3 home instead of the latest and greatest.
