Wiltopia – Anteater Care (721012) Review

If you saw our review before the holidays of the Wiltopia Animal Care Centre, you will remember that we were very excited about this line of Playmobil products. I have always loved animals, and animal toys are almost just as good as the real thing. For a long time now, I’ve wanted Playmobil to do a Zoo line of toys, with enclosures and everything. Who doesn’t want to build a zoo? The Wiltopia sets, however, are the next best thing, and each comes with a few little animals, so our home collection is slowly growing. Let’s take a look at the Anteater Care set!

The big anteater has a particularly long and agile tongue, with which he eats the delicious ants (included as removable stickers) from the anthill. All About the Animals

When it comes to these Wiltopia sets, I always base the price on the number of figures you get in the set. For a second, let’s forget that this comes with two kid figures (one boy, one girl), and instead focus on the animals themselves. Obviously, with a set about anteaters there is going to be…anteaters! One large, and one small. The large anteater has a sliding bar beneath the chin that allows you to stick the anteaters tongue out. If you are unaware, anteaters use long tongues to get into the grooves of ant mounds to get delicious treats and dinner. How do I know this? More on that later.

The smaller anteater won’t be much for playing with, but it is really cool that it can be attached to the mother/father anteater on the top of the tail. Also included with this set is a small little lizard that can be played with solo or placed on the sets centre piece.

I expected the anteater set to come with an ant mound, so I was a bit shocked when that wasn’t the case. There are still ants to be had (although they are stickers and not little ants, a slight disappointment) and these ants are going in an out of a ant hill. There are plenty of plants around to give it a good wild feel.

It is Worth It?

In most situations, Playmobil is really easy to put together. This was the case here – the entire set took may be 2 or 3 minutes to fully build, much to the delight of my 4 year old son Lincoln. Then, after pulling out his Animal Care Station set, he began having a blast with the sets. This is a great little set, and plays well with one other person. Each kid can have a character to play with, and the three animals are easily shared between multiple little hands. Lincoln and I can sprawl on the living room floor for hours with ANY of his Playmobil, but lately he has really been enjoying this set. Stay tuned for when we review the Wiltopia Research Tower with Compass.

One of the best reasons to get your kids involved with Wiltopia sets is because of the educational value added in the box via a QR code on a animal trading card. I’ve written this before, but it is worth repeating here again:

Wiltopia also aims to be educational, and that is something else I really appreciated. Each set you purchase comes with a collectible card that provides information about and animal included in your set….The card not only displays the animal name and a picture, but also shows you where the animal is from, how long it is, how much it weighs, and how fast it can move. There is also a QR code on the back of the card that can be scanned to provide even more information about the world we live in.

Overall, the Anteater Care set is a phenomenal addition to the Wiitopia line. The production value on this set is really high, and the level of detail on the anteater is fantastic. For just under $35, you can have a great little set for the young kids in your life!
