NFC Figures and Smash Bros not a Guarantee

I wrote a previous article on GamesReviews about Nintendo diving into collectible, playable toys market. A day after the article was posted, it was announced that these toys would be usable across a variety of Nintendo games and not be tied to one specific game franchise like the toys used in Disney Infinity or Skylanders. One such rumor was that the NFC figures, scanned using the NFC reader on the Wii U gamepad, would be used in Super Smash Bros.

NES Remix 2 Review

NES Remix II builds on the same basic gameplay mechanics of the original NES Remix. And this is great, because it allows players to attempt challenges in some more popular classic titles such as Super Mario Bros. 3, Zelda 2, Dr. Mario, and Punch-Out. NES Remix II added leaderboards, allowing players to post their scores to Miiverse and to compare with others. Although not a game changer, it was a welcome addition.

Bayonetta 2 Rated in Australia

Bayonetta 2 was announced exclusively for Wii U, and then it kind of went quiet. We’ve had a couple of updates showing how things have been progressing, but when compared to something like Watch Dogs (which seems to have had a trailer every week for months), the Witch Hairdressing Sim seems to have been completely non-existent. It seems release might be closer than you’d expect, however, as Bayonetta 2 was this weekend rated in Australia. Those worried that Nintendo would…

Mario Kart 8 Review

It has been a long wait. It seems like years since we received our first screens, months since that detailed, energetic Nintendo Direct... Now, it will only be a little over a week before we can all play it. It's almost Mario Kart time, and it just cannot seem to come fast enough. I had zero desire to sit down and write this up. I don't want to tell you about Mario Kart, I don't want to discuss Mario Kart, and I definitely don't want to waste valuable time editing anything about Mario Kart.

Hyrule Warriors HY-YAHing to Japan in August

We've all been waiting a long time for a new console entry in the Legend of Zelda franchise, and while Hyrule Warriors probably wasn't what the majority of us had in mind, it's in no way a bad thing. It'll offer a fresh look at Zelda's kingdom, and will probably benefit quite a bit from the Dynasty Warriors style. Despite all that, there's still a lot we don't know about the game. This is especially surprising when you realize that it's only a few months away from release.

New Mario Kart Video Displays Crazy Upside Down Racing

Nintendo succeeded in impressing an awful lot of people with Mario Kart 8. Not only does the gameplay look strong and original, but the addition of a bonus digital title with every purchase makes it a bargain on any level. Not to waste even a small part of that excitement, they've today released a brand new video showcasing the biggest change coming to the franchise: anti-gravity racing.

Nintendo to Follow Skylanders and Disney Infinity

In mid April, news came out that Nintendo had the opportunity to have exclusivity for Skylanders, but decided to pass on that offer. Well, a few years later it appears as if Nintendo's mind has changed when it comes to interactive toys. According to Wire, via a twitpic, Nintendo is set to announce their own game and character collection at E3 this year. Nintendo confirmed that they were working on figurines during an investor call late last week, although didn't announce anything specific.

Nintendo Finances Still Fall Ahead of Juggernaut Releases

We haven't come to a point yet where headlines can read, "Wii U is Dead" despite claims from many that this is indeed the case. However, if Nintendo's finances do not improve in the Wii U division after the release of Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros, perhaps this what all major news outlets will be saying.

Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze Review

It feels so long ago that I went out and purchased a banana yellow Gameboy Pocket and copies of Donkey Kong Country and Donkey Kong Country 2. As a kid, I always had to pay for my own games as my parents refused to purchase games for birthdays or Christmas. For that reason, these two games were played a lot. Many years later, Nintendo is still releasing titles in the Donkey Kong Country franchise; how thankful long-time fans must be, because Nintendo continues to release high quality, top tier games.

Ubisoft Didn’t Interfere in Child of Light Development

It's a well believed idea that major publishers hate originality and that they'll take a direct hand in development if they don't like the direction a game is going. While that may well happen, Child of Light writer Jeffrey Yohalem was surprised to find Ubisoft was nothing but supportive of his fairy tale RPG.
