When it comes to Presentations, Nintendo Does It Best

Nintendo might lack the flash of other companies when it comes to how they deliver gaming news to their fans, but they do it the best regardless. Sure, there is no hype from a crowd, a big, shinny stage with lights blazing, or celebrity guests and musical artists to get things rocking. Instead, it’s just, “Welcome to today’s Nintendo Direct / Indie World Showcase / Mini Direct” and we are off to the races.

I love a good musical show every now and then, and I love listening to a developer talk about their games. But not for 10-15 minutes. And I don’t want your ads, or your decision to give some titles tons of spotlight, and others almost none. News flash folks – it’s all based on who pays the most with these things. But Nintendo has never wanted to be like Sony or Microsoft in this regard, and I love it.

Quick hits, that is what Nintendo is about. Here’s a 3 minute trailer for this game, and a 2 minute trailer for that game. Oh, the developer would like to take 45 seconds to explain how the game came to be – throw it at me, because I know in 45 seconds I’ll be watching yet another trailer, not listening to someone drone on.

That isn’t to say these voices don’t deserve to be heard, but there is a seperate platform for that. At E3, that’s Treehouse Live. Outside of E3, you can find developer diaries all over the place. I don’t need that packed into a showcase who’s sole purpose is to show me what is coming to the system in 2022. If I want to know more about a particular game, great. I know how to use Google. But when there are games I don’t care too much about, I never need to worry about Nintendo spending more than 2-3 minutes on that sepcific title. Because it’s all about quick hits, getting the games into your face to build some hype, then moving on.

Do it like Nintendo folks. They do it right.
