There aren’t any real, physical Thai casinos, which leaves fanatics turning to their phones for fun.

It’s true that online gambling in Thailand is also prohibited, so the most dedicated gamblers might need to try and find somewhere where they can gaming access to their favourite games.

This isn’t overly difficult, as there are plenty of Thai-based websites that will allow you to play pretty much any online gambling game that you can imagine.

Naturally, you want to win real money when gambling. This is also dead easy, In fact, you’re almost going to spoiled for choice.

Real Money Gambling in Thailand

There are all sorts of options for gambling with real money in Thailand. Like in all cases, you want to do a little research. Make sure where you’re playing is safe and secure. For instance, you can play games and earn real money with casinoroller88s.com.

But the options don’t stop there. You can pick from any number of apps and websites that will let you play anything you can imagine.

It was estimated that $32 million passes through Thai-based gambling sites every year. That’s a lot of people playing a lot of games.

If you’d rather avoid the legal grey area that is online gambling – it isn’t technically illegal, just prohibited – there is gambling you can take part in while in Thailand. But Thai gambling might seem very limited compared to what you might be used to.

The government runs a lottery, which you are welcome to take part in. You will also be able to bet on horse racing.

That might understandably prove underwhelming for those who love to place a bet or two. Gamblers will have to find something else to fill their time if they’re not happy with horse racing and lottery games.

History of Gambling

Like in many places in Asia, and in the world really, Thailand has a rich history  of gambling. And it’s still very much enjoyed today, despite the legal problems.

For instance, bus tickets come with lottery numbers. Even military service is decided by a game of change – red you are in, black you’re out. It is estimated that Thai people spend more time gambling on average than they do on religion – which makes you wonder why the laws around gambling are so strict.

Despite the regulations, there is historical documents going back to the 10th century talking about people playing games of chance. And yet there is still prohibition. It is illegal to own more than 120 playing cards without government approval.

Gambling laws were brought into place in 1935. Brief periods of legalisation have been attacked by the media and public, despite a huge amount of people taking part in it regardless.

Gambling in Thailand isn’t seen as a potential addiction, where someone with a condition needs help. Instead it’s seen as a social problem, like binge drinking, and it’s dealt with in much the same way. “Just don’t”.

But that means there’s a guilty pleasure element to it.

It is theorised that cultural ideas around lucky numbers and mysticism make Thai people particularly prone to gambling addiction, although that’s not been backed up by scientific fact. In fact, longer studies would be difficult to carry out, exactly because gambling is done in secret.

There are plenty of opportunities to gamble online in Thailand. It is time to allow that to be talked about in the open. That way the government get their tax, the people get their gambling and those who need it most can get the help that they need.
