More Thoughts From Me #249: A New Addition to the Switch Menu

Last night, Nintendo updated the Switch. Most of the time, the updates add very little but this time we got a pretty big update! The most noticeable change is a new addition to the Switch menu: a red icon amongst the other icons like the News channel and the photo collection. What do this new icon do? What do I think of it? Let’s talk about it!

The newest addition to the Nintendo Switch’s menu is a Nintendo Switch Online “app”.

This brand new “app” on the menu will take you to a section completely dedicated to the Nintendo Switch Online service.

Here you’ll find out the latest offers for the service, what games can be played online, find some of your saved Cloud date and…best of all…you’ll find a list of all the NES and SNES games available for you to play.

The NES/SNES list is absolutely the best thing about this “app”. The full list of games for the Nintendo Switch Online service is right there. You can scroll though them and look at when they were released. The games that came out when you were born will actually have something that says “This game came out when you were turning —“. A pretty neat little feature.

And if you press on one of the games, you’ll find a video, sometimes screenshots, of the game and a description of the game. The description are super handy especially for the remixed NES titles. You actually know what you’re getting into with those now. Oh and theres a button that will take you right to the game!

Here’s hoping that Nintendo will get rid of the individual Nintendo Switch online games apps and just have this be the main hub. Well, at the very least, here’s hoping they won’t add any more apps for future games. This new Nintendo Switch Online hub is awesome.

Speaking of futures games added to the service, there is a rumor that we’ll be getting more games very soon. Gameboy Advance games? Hmm. I hope so but as with all rumors, take this with a grain of salt.

I absolutely love the new Nintendo Switch Online “app”. I am going to be using that so much.

The newest Switch update also added a cool trending feature to the User page which lets you know what games you’re friends have been playing a lot. There are some other features that were added too. You can find out all about them here.

I hope we’ll see more cool updates for the Nintendo Switch soon!

What do you think of the newest Switch system update?

More Thoughts From Me is an opinion column. The thoughts expressed here are mine and mine alone. I’d love to see Gameboy Advance added to the Switch Online service! So many awesome games for the GBA.
