Racing For Free: A Look At Asphalt 9: Legends for Nintendo Switch

I miss the Burnout franchise. I’m not very good at racing games so I’m always running off the road and hitting other cars. So the Burnout franchise was perfect for me. I loved how you can hit the cars and damage them. Unfortunately none of the Burnout games are on the Switch. However Asphalt 9: Legends is on the Switch and its a lot like Burnout. And its free-to-download! How is this game?

Asphalt 9: Legends is not Burnout. Its not even Burnout Paradise, which is my least favorite of the series. That said, Asphalt 9 is fun and its also free!

In Asphalt 9, there are multiple modes, though you have to unlock them via the game’s career mode. With career mode, you have a lot of places to race in and objectives you have to complete to get to the next race. The racing in Asphalt is neat. I wouldn’t say its the best racer I’ve ever played but its fun enough. The best part of Asphalt 9 is its Burnout-style gameplay.

The player can do tricks in Asphalt 9 by jumping off ramps. And of course they can also smash into other cars and wreck them. The racing slows down much like Burnout to show the damage. The player’s car can be damaged too but thats less satisfying because it takes you out of the race for a moment.

I’m not sure if I would’ve played full price for Asphalt 9 but as a free-to-play game, its a blast. I like having a Burnout-style game on the Switch. Plus, you can unlock online multiplayer and other modes!

Though, yes, there are things you can buy with real money in Asphalt 9. Thankfully you don’t have to buy anything to win in this game. Asphalt 9 can be played without buying a thing.

If you miss Burnout, then Asphalt isn’t a bad replacement at all. Yes, it would be better to have Burnout (especially Takedown or Revenge) on the Switch but we don’t have that. Asphalt 9 is a fun game. Oh and I didn’t even mention the graphics! This is a really good looking game.

Check out Asphalt 9: Legends for some old school Burnout fun. I do wish there was a crash into traffic mode like Takedown though. Oh well. Wrecking cars on the road is still fun.
