Animal Crossing New Horizons: Fall Update First Impressions

Animal Crossing New Horizons fans got the Fall update on Tuesday, however we didn’t see any real results of the update until today! Its October and you know what that means: its spooky season. If you haven’t played New Horizons yet today and you want to remain spoiler free, don’t read this article. We’re warning you! Here are my first impressions of the Fall update.

Isabelle had some news today! Its the start of October, aka spooky season, aka Halloween. And that means candy, pumpkins and spooky outfits. Halloween is my favorite holiday, so I’m very excited for New Horizons take on it. The addition of growing pumpkins is especially exciting and so yes, I had to do that first.

Leif was in town today, so I went over to him to buy some pumpkins.

I bought a bunch of pumpkin starts and went to plant them. This is so Harvest Moon! I really love this. I think its a great addition to the franchise. I wonder if we’ll be growing anything else in the future…

After I planted the Pumpkin seeds, it was time to become the spooky version of myself. I started by adding green skin.

And then I added red eyes and grey hair. Here is the end result:

I am a Zombie Pirate!

There wasn’t much to do after that though. It was early in the morning and so my shop wasn’t open yet. I couldn’t buy candy or special Halloween items yet. Thank goodness for Leif showing up so I could buy some pumpkins.

So I quit the game for awhile and came back later.

When I came back, I went to Nook’s Cranny and bought some candy. I also got a really cool spooky pumpkin stack.

Sidenote: I love the early morning fog here. Very Silent Hill!

After placing the pumpkin stack outside, I went around looking for some spooky recipes. I ended up finding three: one that my villager Rowan was creating…

…and two others from balloons. I really want this one:

But each of the recipes need pumpkins to create them and, well, we have to wait until the pumpkins grow in order to make any of these spooky recipes. sigh.

Overall, I love this update. I do wish the pumpkins grew faster (I hear they take five days) but I love the skin/eye changes and the look of the spooky items. I’m glad you can buy a Halloween item from Nook’s Cranny!

So have you played the Fall update yet? What do you think of it? Are you looking forward to Halloween?
