Ultimate WotLK Class Picking Guide

Wrath of the Lich King (WotLK) is the latest expansion to the World of Warcraft Classic. When Blizzard announced Classic, players waited for the release of the best expansion in WoW’s history, the Wrath of the Lich King.

We finally see our beloved story played out again as current content almost three years later. We will be going over many guides on what to prepare for it’s release, so check out SSEGold.com now to read more WotLK News!

As for this guide, we will be going over the ultimate WotLK classes, which entail the best healers tanks and DPS for WotLK, and why you should choose those classes.

TBC to WotLK – The changes to Classes and Difficulty

blank

In TBC, many players were discouraged by the difficulty of classic leveling; using boosts, players could skip that lengthy grind and get into TBC content. The boosts may be controversial, but they were a good way for new players to experience TBC content. WotLK, however, is different.

WotLK leveling is more refined than its predecessors, with mana and ability damage increases, boss mobs having more realistic HP values, and earlier primary ability acquisitions. As a result of the easier leveling, boosts will become a less used option, and players will rather opt for the more entertaining quest lines that Azeroth and Outland offer.

Leveling may be easier, but some classes excel more than others in terms of leveling. We will go over a shortlist of easiest leveling characters and combinations if you want to play with friends.

Choosing a Class to Level Solo

blank

As we said earlier, some classes are better at levelling than others; here are the easiest to solo level:

  • Paladin (Retribution)
  • Warlock (Affliction)
  • Mage (Frost)
  • Shaman (Enhancement)
  • Hunter (Marksman)

Choosing a Class to Level in a Group

blank

Levelling in a group requires one person to at least be a healer and another to be a tank, and anything else DPS wise would be okay, but here are our best combinations below:

  • Paladin (Protection)
  • Priest (Discipline)
  • Warlock
  • Shaman (Restoration)

Choosing your Class for WotLK

With leveling out the way, we will go over some of the new content that WotLK brings along with the new class, The Death Knight. The new content does bring different challenges, and as a result, certain classes will reign supreme over others that TBC saw most played. Everyone played a Warlock during TBC as they were top DPS and had great utilities such as soul stone (revival) and the ability to teleport players to raids and dungeons. In Wrath of the Lich King, however, that somewhat changes.

Top DPS Class Choices for WotLK

If you’re looking to play the role of a damage dealer, you may be interested in these classes as in Wrath of The Lich King; they dealt considerably greater damage for the content.

  1.  Fury Warrior
  2.  Fire Mage
  3.  Retribution Paladin
  4.  Affliction Warlock
  5.  Combat Rogue
  6.  Marksman Hunter
  7.  Shadow Priest
  8.  Unholy DK
  9.  Balance Druid
  10.  Arcane Mage

These classes got extremely strong during WotLK and will see the most played for DPS in Dungeons and Raids. The reason for Retribution Paladin appearing so high on the list as opposed to being last in TBC is because almost all enemy encounters during WotLK are undead, giving a permanent 1% bonus damage and additional ability effects. Fire mages are extremely fun during Wrath of The Lich King as the critical damage percent could be pushed further than that of TBC, meaning more pyroblasts and crazy AoE Damage.

Top Healer Choices for WotLK

blank

Healers got buffed to deal with the new mechanics of Icecrown, allowing for new abilities to deal with those new mechanics. As a result, you will see many more people willing to play healers as their roles have finally been improved with complexity and intricacy. The top 3 healers for Wrath of the Lich King are:

  1.  Priest (Discipline)
  2.  Paladin (Holy)
  3.  Shaman (Restoration)

These three healers all have their own special unique play styles that offer a variety of healing. Discipline Priest offers the most damage mitigation out of all classes meaning tanks take less time to be hurt by bosses. Discipline Priests also apply tenacity to their tanks, increasing their damage mitigation and healing received.

There is no better than Holy Paladin during Wrath of the Lich King for Tank healing, pumping out some of the expansion’s biggest healing and lowest mana consumptions. Holy Paladin’s healing has the drawback of not being able to do AoE healing, so make sure you have a holy priest or Restoration Druid to make up for that.

As for shamans, their healing is great during WotLK as they have consistent single and AoE healing making them a secure spot for raids and dungeons. They also have bloodlust/heroism to bolster raid/dungeon fights.

Top Tankers for WotLK

blank

Tanks got massively buffed during the end of TBC and throughout WotLK, allowing them to hold aggro much more effectively while having new damage mitigations and party-saving abilities. Here are our top three tanks for WotLK:

  1.  Protection Paladin
  2.  Blood Death Knight
  3.  Warrior Protection Spec

Protection Paladin is the strongest of all the tanking specs purely because of the Undead in the raids. Holy Wrath is an ability that stuns all undead and deals holy damage, which increases the threat that the paladin produces. We highly recommend playing a paladin tank during WotLK.

Summary

We hope you enjoyed our list of DPS/Tanks/Healers! We hope you are excited about this new WotLK expansion. Check out SSEGold for great deals on WotLK Classic Gold, items, low-priced boosts, and our articles on the WotLK expansion. Happy hunting!
